Beat writer Tim Twentyman was asked about Detroit Lion RB Mikel Leshoure and if he'd be ready for training camp:

"After seeing him cut and burst last day of minicamp, I'd say yes."

Fantasy Impact: 

The Lion RB situation is a bit of a mess right now. Jahvid Best, Leshoure and Kevin Smith are all coming off injuries last year and are in the fold to see action this season. Leshoure is a big back who is certain to take goal line TDs away from the other guys. All three are ranked pretty close, between 37 and 41, and have their strengths and weaknesses so some things will need to shake out before draft day.

Lions RB Jahvid Best will receive the majority of carries early on for Detroit as Mikel Leshoure serves a two-game suspension. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew recently said he expects a breakthrough season for Best, which could occur if he stays injury free.

Mikel Leshoure could be the key to the Lions' rushing game. Despite his offseason issues, despite being suspended for the first two games of the season and despite coming off Achilles surgery, Leshoure is the guy who can get the tough yards, who can break off big runs and can make plays with his hands.

If his recovery stays on course, he's the primary back the Lions have been missing. Jahvid Best, if he can put his concussion issues behind him, can finally play the Reggie Bush, Darren Sproles-type role the Lions always envisioned for him.

Don't sleep on Kevin Smith, either. Nobody ever questioned his talent and he's worked his tail off to get his career back. The football gods owe him at least one season of clean health, right?

Fantasy Impact: 

That pretty much sums up the Lions' RBBC heading into the 2012 season. Best has been running with the first team and holds value as long as he's upright. But his concussion history is worrisome.

RB Mikel Leshoure of the Detroit Lions has been suspended for two games without pay and will be fined two additional game checks for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, according to an NFL spokesperson.

Fantasy Impact: 

Reportedly, the concussion-prone Jahvid Best looks great in camp, and Kevin Smith is also in the mix. This is a tough RBBC to predict given all of the variables involved.
