Scouting report

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Dallas Cowboys
After a 100+ rushing yard game two weeks ago, Miles Sanders went back to the numbers we are used to see from him last week. He had 17 touches for 64 yards and was held out of the end zone after scoring two times in Week 4.

Sanders faces Dallas who is ranked 8th in aFPA to running backs. We would like to see him get more touches, but even with the tough matchup, he should be able to help your team. Last season against the Cowboys, Sanders only played in one of the games and had three touches.

Start Sanders as a high-end RB2 for Week 6. The Eagles are home and should continue to thrive on offense with him a big part of it in this divisional showdown.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Arizona Cardinals
Miles Sanders had a career-high 27 carries for a career-high 134 rushing yards last week. He also added 2 rushing touchdowns and 22 receiving yards to have the best fantasy day of his career. The Eagles are dedicated to running the football and although it is usually QB Jalen Hurts carrying the load, Sanders will have more games like this in 2022.

Sanders face the Cardinals who are ranked 25th in aFPA to running backs. We don't expect him to put up numbers like last week, but his fantasy stock has risen from his standing in the preseason.

Start Sanders as a high-end RB2 for Week 5. We expect him to continue to get touches as he has become the featured back for the first time in his career.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
The good news is Miles Sanders got 15 more carries last Sunday. The bad news is he only managed 46 yards rushing, his lowest total of the season. The ugly news is he still not involved in the passing game. He had one reception for -1 yard. There is little doubt that Sanders has fantasy value but the ceiling is much higher than we have seen so far.

Sanders faces the Jaguars who are ranked 5th in aFPA to running backs. The young Jacksonville defense has played well so far this season so it will be a challenge for the Eagles.

Start Sanders as a high-end RB3 for Week 4. He has good standing in standard leagues but needs to start seeing more targets in the passing game to become a serious RB2 on a weekly basis.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Washington Commanders
Miles Sanders hit 20 touches which is unusual for the Eagles back. His managers hope it becomes more common. He ended up with 86 total yards of offense. The Eagles offense has been hitting on all cylinders and Sanders has been a part of it.

The Commanders are up next and are ranked 15th in aFPA to running backs. Last year, Sanders only played one game versus Washington but he rushed for a season-high 131 yards.

Start Sanders as a solid RB2 for Week 3. He is definitely in the Eagles game plan and his usage in both the running and passing games warrant his ranking.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Minnesota Vikings
After being shut out of the end zone in 2021, Miles Sanders scored a touchdown in Week 1. He also added 96 rushing yards and 9 receiving yards to go over 100 total yards from scrimmage. The Eagles offense looked good and if Sanders stays healthy, he could have his best year yet.

The matchup is favorable as the Vikings defense is below average. Philly's offense looked more balanced than last year with a more efficient passing game and still one of the better running attacks in the league. Of course, this will all benefit Sanders.

Start Sanders as a high-end RB3 or Flex for Week 2. Another trip to the end zone will give you even more value, but his touches will be enough to warrant a start.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Detroit Lions
Miles Sanders has been cleared to play on Sunday and is healthy after nursing a bad hamstring this summer. The Eagles back is the No. 1 guy in the backfield although he will have to prove he is fantasy worthy.

It's a good matchup for Week 1 as the Eagles face the Lions. Detroit was ranked 30th in aFPA to running backs in 2021. Sanders should have opportunities this week.

The Eagles got more weapons so how much will Sanders be involved? Enough to start him as an RB3 or Flex for Week 1. It would be nice if he actually got into the end zone early this season. (He scored zero touchdowns in 2021.)

PHI RB Miles Sanders - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
Miles Sanders is the clear-cut No. 1 running back in Philadelphia. He rushed for 754 yards and coupled that with 26 receptions in 12 games. When Sanders carried the ball, he was very efficient and did what the Eagles needed him to do. With Jordan Howard not on the roster, the goal line situations should go to Sanders this season. The Eagles offense should be very good with off-season upgrades and the skill players' fantasy numbers should be rewarded.

2022 Fantasy Downside
As noted, Sanders only played 12 games last season and 12 in 2020 as well. His numbers last season were career-lows with the exception of yards-per-carry. Injuries have limited him at times and that affected his numbers. Another negative was the fact he scored zero touchdowns last season. Although that is probably more of a fluke than due to his ability, it still hurt his fantasy standing. And usually your No. 1 running back is your leading rusher but that wasn't the case in Philly as Jalen Hurts led the Birds and the quarterback will continue to be a major factor in the running game.

2022 Bottom Line
If Sanders can stay healthy, he will be a serviceable fantasy running back. But that is a big if. His numbers will probably be similar to last season with the Hurts factor. The exception will be touchdowns which should rise. At this point if he is the third RB on your roster, that's a good role for Sanders on a fantasy team. He is being drafted higher than he probably should be because of being a No. 1 back for the Eagles. We think selecting him in the 7th round or higher doesn't equate to value.
