King: Eagles QB Carson Wentz returns for Week 3

NBC Sports' Peter King has a theory—Carson Wentz will not only miss Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, but also Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

King went on the "Dan Patrick Show" and predicted that Wentz would sit out until the Eagles' Week 3 home game against the Indianapolis Colts. Earlier on Monday, King wrote in his weekly column that he believed Wentz was "doubtful" for Week 1, too.

Fantasy Impact: 

Keep in mind this is just a theory and one opinion, however, if you read our news post Sunday about Wentz, there is growing speculation from those who follow the team that the Eagles may be cautious with Wentz and hold him out multiple weeks to start the season. As we stated Sunday, the Eagles' schedule gets tougher after Week 4, so the team may believe it can get away with playing Foles until they feel much better about Wentz.

Fantasy Impact: 

There continues to be different opinions around the league as to whether or not Wentz will play Week 1. Wentz has said all along "it's going to be close" as far as him being ready to go. He also added it will be up to the doctors. There are those who said the team's schedule gets harder after Week 4, so it's possible the Birds try to ride out the first few games with Foles under center. One thing is for sure, the Eagles will use caution when it comes to their franchise QB.

Though Carson Wentz has not yet been cleared for full contact, he'll "jump back into some team drills" Sunday, according to HC Doug Pederson. In doing so, he'll split first-team reps with Nick Foles, who will practice despite suffering a shoulder strain Thursday. Wentz recently acknowledged that his Week 1 availability will be a close call, but the franchise signal-caller continues to progress well and his status for the Eagles' opener ultimately figures to be determined by the team's medical staff.

Fantasy Impact: 

It's looking like both QBs will be good to go for Week 1 at this point, and if that's the case, Wentz will get the nod. Wentz isn't expected to play in the preseason. Foles' preseason shoulder injury obviously wasn't all that serious

Eagles QB Carson Wentz's chances to play Week 1: 'It's going to be close'

Speaking Tuesday morning on SportsRadio 94WIP, Eagles QB Carson Wentz offered this update on the chances he is cleared by the doctors to play in Week 1 just under nine months from tearing his ACL.

"I obviously would love to be out there. That has been my goal all offseason, ever since the injury. It is going to be close. It is going to be close," Wentz said. "I am still eyeing that date. But at the end of the day it is not just my decision. There is coaches and doctors that really have the final say, but I really like where I am at and time will tell."

Fantasy Impact: 

Wentz is encouraged about where he's at in his rehab. But as the story said, it's been a rollercoaster in terms of predicting if he'll play Week 1. Over the last two weeks, Wentz has been kept out of 11-on-11 drills. Obviously, Foles would start if Wentz can't go.
