Fantasy Upside
Parris Campbell is a lightning-fast playmaker who should be an upgrade over the secondary receiving options the Colts had last year beyond T.Y. Hilton. He’s a versatile player who can line up all over the field and also help in the return game. Campbell caught 79 balls for 992 yards and 11 touchdowns last season at Ohio State, including 11 catches, 71 yards and a touchdown in a Rose Bowl victory over Washington. He ran a 4.31-second 40-yard-dash at the combine and should have no trouble finding the field as a rookie for a team that was second in the NFL in pass attempts a year ago.
Fantasy Downside
While the Colts have a prolific passing offense and definitely wanted to add more speed and playmaking, someone is going to have a hard time getting targets with all the talented receiving options on the roster. The Colts like to use both Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron in multiple-tight end sets, and Hilton and free agent receiver Devin Funchess aren’t going anywhere. They also have a talented pass-catching running back in Nyheim Hines who had 81 targets last year. Campbell still has some development steps to make as a route-runner and could need some time to adjust to the game before putting up consistent production.
2019 Bottom Line
Campbell is worth stashing in all dynasty leagues, but he’s probably not worth rostering in most re-draft formats. There simply aren’t enough targets to feed everybody in Indianapolis. Campbell does have some value as a late-round flier in best-ball formats, given his big-play ability. Fantasy owners should monitor Campbell as the season progresses, but most rosters are too small to warrant serious consideration for him.
