Fantasy Upside
When a QB7 finish is considered disappointing, you know you're doing something right as a quarterback in your career. That's the case with Patrick Mahomes, who oversaw what became a bit of a struggling Chiefs offense in the regular season. Of course, we all know what happened in the end. Mahomes hoisted the Lombardi Trophy for a third time. Still, it was career-lows in passing yards (4,183), touchdowns (27), and rushing touchdowns (0). The good news is that the offense added Hollywood Brown in free agency and drafted Xavier Worthy, the man who set a Combine record with a 4.21 40-yard dash. The Chiefs offense is scary again as they set their sights on a third straight Super Bowl.
Fantasy Downside
Last season showed what the downside of Mahomes can look like and it's still pretty darn good. If we're going to nitpick anything, it's that the Chiefs struggled with drops last season. Their 38 total drops were the highest in the league. If those get cleaned up, Mahomes will be just fine.
2024 Bottom Line
Bottom line, you're drafting Mahomes. Even if last season happens again in bits and pieces, Mahomes is elite and can overcome the offense's struggles. He may not be QB1 in fantasy circles (most have Josh Allen in that spot), but Mahomes is still up there among the top tiers. Don't overthink Mahomes.
