Scouting report

KC QB Patrick Mahomes - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Pittsburgh Steelers

The ankle seems okay for Patrick Mahomes. He threw for 26 yards and a touchdown and also added a 15-yard rushing touchdown in Saturday's win over the Texans. Now, Mahomes can gift the No. 1 seed for the Chiefs for Christmas with a win in Pittsburgh. But that certainly won't be easy. Playing in Pittsburgh on a short week is tough enough and the Steelers rank as the toughest matchup against fantasy quarterbacks entering Week 17. Pittsburgh is also looking to bounce back after their Saturday loss to the Ravens and try to stay in control in the AFC North. Mahomes remains a low-end QB1 entering fantasy championship weekend.

KC QB Patrick Mahomes - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16vs. Houston Texans

The big story coming out of Week 15 was the status of Patrick Mahomes after getting his ankle rolled up. So far, Mahomes has been a full participant in practice, so it's looking likely that he'll play Saturday against the Texans. That said, you almost have to do a double take seeing where Mahomes is ranked for the fantasy playoffs. But then you remember he hasn't been a fantasy stud this season. Couple that with facing one of the stronger defenses in the league in Houston and you have Mahomes as a QB2 for the fantasy semifinals.

KC QB Patrick Mahomes - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Cleveland Browns

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs begin a stretch of three games in 11 days, starting Sunday in Cleveland against a Browns team eliminated from playoff contention. As for Mahomes, it was another average fantasy day last week against the Chargers, throwing for just 210 yards and a touchdown. It's certainly not the fantasy season Mahomes owners had wanted, but the Chiefs aren't complaining. They're 12-1. It may be another so-so fantasy day for Mahomes. For all the problems the Browns have had, they do rank 7th in fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks and 13th in passing yards allowed with 18 passing touchdowns given up.

KC QB Patrick Mahomes - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Patrick Mahomes reached 300 yards last week against the Raiders, despite going 26-of-46. It was just the second 300-yard game for Mahomes this season but it helped the Chiefs clinch a playoff berth and inch closer to their 9th straight AFC West title. A win over the Chargers Sunday would do it. Mahomes had 245 yards and a touchdown back in Week 4 against LA. The Chargers are playing very good football defensively -- call it the Jim Harbaugh effect but also give credit to DC Jesse Minter. The Chargers picked off Kirk Cousins four times last week. Mahomes is always going to be one of the better options in fantasy and has played very well at home, throwing for at least 250 in all but one game at Arrowhead this season.

KC QB Patrick Mahomes - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

The Chiefs may have had to battle to beat the Panthers last week, but Patrick Mahomes put up perhaps his best fantasy day of the season, throwing for 269 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions while also adding 60 rushing yards. That's back-to-back games and three out of four with three passing touchdowns for Mahomes heading into a Black Friday date with the Raiders, the team that stunned the Chiefs at Arrowhead last Christmas. Mahomes had 262 yards and two touchdowns in Vegas in Week 8. The Raiders rank 24th in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks. Mahomes is rolling, keep riding the hot hand.

KC QB Patrick Mahomes - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Carolina Panthers

Patrick Mahomes threw three touchdowns for just the second time this season. He did also throw two interceptions as the Chiefs suffered their first defeat of the season. Mahomes was also held under 200 passing yards. Mahomes is usually quite strong following a loss. Good luck to the Panthers this week. Mahomes is a solid QB1 this week against a Panthers defense allowing 18.6 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks.

KC QB Patrick Mahomes - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Buffalo Bills

Week 10 marked Patrick Mahomes' 5th game with one or fewer touchdown passes. He's been a steady fantasy quarterback but certainly not the elite fantasy one we've grown accustomed to. Of course, Chiefs fans aren't complaining. The Chiefs are 9-0 thanks to a blocked field goal. They go for 10-0 against their old friends, the Buffalo Bills, the team they knocked out in the Divisional Playoffs last year en route to their second straight Super Bowl. Mahomes had 215 yards and two touchdowns in the 27-24 win. Buffalo again has a stingy defense but Mhomes has reached 250+ passing yards in three straight games.
