Scouting report

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 2, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. St. Louis

Pierre Garcon put up decent fantasy numbers in Week 1 with a 6-74-0 line on eight targets. It was an improvement from some weeks in 2014 where he was unusable.

Garcon could be in line for a bump in targets and production as the team will be without DeSean Jackson for at least a couple of weeks. Before Jackson came along, Garcon was a target monster and the hope for owners is he holds true to form. This week it's a decent matchup as the Rams are 19th in allowing fantasy points to WRs. Garcon comes in ranked 24th this week - a low-end WR2 option. Ironically, one of his better games last year came against the Rams where he put up a 9-95-0 line on 11 targets.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs Miami
Pierre Garcon comes into Week 1 ranked way down our list at 42nd. The once-reliable Garcon has taken a major hit in the rankings after a poor performance in 2014. Once a target hog, Garcon seemed to suffer the most from the QB instability last year. What's also puzzling is how DeSean Jackson's presence didn't seem to allow Garcon to roam freely, much like it did for Riley Cooper in Philly, who had a career year when the two were last together. Garcon has a chance to surprise and bounce back this year, but given his ranking this week, it may be best to use another option.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Pierre Garcon has been a target hog over the years, which has always been good news for his fantasy owners. He has clicked with Robert Griffin III in the past and RG3's return this year should be good news for Garcon. Having DeSean Jackson on the other side should help draw defenses away from Garcon, much Jackson did in Philadelphia when he helped Riley Cooper put up usable fantasy stats for a stretch two years ago. Washington also plans to move Garcon around this year to help create mismatches.

Fantasy Downside
For all the reasons above that should have made Garcon a good fantasy option last year, none of them seemed to come to fruition. Jackson was the more productive WR and Garcon's targets dropped as the team went through multiple quarterbacks in 2014.

Bottom Line
Garcon's ranking takes a beating this year and he's way down our list at 49th with an ADP of the 10th round in 12-team leagues. That's low-end WR4 range. It seems like he is worth a flier at that point of drafts, especially with the news the team wants to move him around. There are some younger players around Garcon in the rankings (like Brashad Perriman and Devin Funchess) who offer more upside, but But Garcon has produced in this league and is a safer option to round out WR depth.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 - Garcon vs. Dallas
Pierre Garcon caught four balls for 61 yards last week on five targets. It was a slight drop in targets after getting 9, 11, and 5 the previous three weeks. But his 61 yards is second best over the last eight games. It seems like he's getting more involved, especially over the last three weeks, but Garcon is still way too risky of a play in typical leagues. It's a tough matchup this week but Garcon may get some time against backups as the Cowboys don't have a whole lot to play for this week.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 - Garcon vs. Philly
Pierre Garcon caught four balls for 36 yards last week and was targeted seven times. It was a fairly typical game for Garcon this year, even after coming off a 9-95 game in Week 14 with DeSean Jackson out. It's a real nice matchup this week against the Eagles who are just 26th in allowing fantasy points to WRs. But Garcon has not been a guy to put in fantasy lineups and the presence of Jackson has really brought his fantasy totals down this season. Ironically, Garcon had his best game of the season in Week 3 against the Eagles with a 11-138-1 line.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 - Garcon vs. NY Giants

Pierre Garcon took advantage of a banged up DeSean Jackson last week and caught nine balls for 95 yards on 11 targets. It was his biggest fantasy output since he had a Week 7 line of 5-87-1 against the Titans. Between those two games it was a lot of duds for Garcon and owners, however.

It's a tough matchup this week with Jackson again in question. Garcon is way too risky for my liking, with or without Jackson in the lineup. Now, if Jackson doesn't play Garcon should see a bump in workload but the Giants are a top-10 team in allowing fantasy points to WRs. Also, the QB situation is once again up in the air with Colt McCoy in question because of a neck injury.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 - Garcon vs. St. Louis
The good news for Pierre Garcon is he was targeted nine times in Week 13. It's the most targets since collecting 16 back in Week 3 against the Eagles. The bad news was he caught just three of them for nine yards against the Colts. It was a game the Skins trailed most of the time, too, but Garcon's offensive and fantasy numbers remain poor since Week 7 against Tennessee when he put up a 5-87-1 line. Garcon just isn't a safe option and that even goes for this week against the Rams, who rank 27th in allowing fantasy points to WRs.
