Scouting report

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 - Garcon vs. San Francisco

It was supposed to be a great matchup for Pierre Garcon owners last week as the Bucs were ranked 32nd in allowing fantasy points to RBs. But Garcon ended up with just one catch for six yards on two targets in a train wreck of a game for Washington's offense.

That makes a total of four catches for 21 yards on seven targets over Garcon's last two games. The hope was those numbers would all improve with the return of QB Robert Griffin III, but that hasn't happened as of yet. It's a tough matchup this week as the team travels to San Francisco. The Niners are 15th in allowing fantasy points to WRs, but are tough on QBs and RBs. Still, Garcon can't really be trusted right now.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 - Garcon vs. Tampa Bay

Owners of Pierre Garcon were hoping for a big turnaround back in Week 9, despite a difficult matchup. Garcon has seen way more targets a game with Robert Griffin III under center, but it didn't shape up that way as Garcon had a line of 3-15-0 on five targets Week 9.

This week's matchup is a perfect one for Garcon to get back on track. But his recent fantasy performances in games hasn't been good the last two week, so he's risky until we see more consistency. But if you want to play matchups, Garcon goes against the Bucs who rank 32nd in allowing fantasy points to WRs.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 - Garcon vs. Minnesota
Pierre Garcon's mini-streak of OK play came to an end last week. Having scored a TD in each of the last two games, Garcon caught four balls for 47 yards on just four targets.

He's starting to get frustrated with the offense, especially when averaging around 12 targets last year - something he ironically had Week 1 against the Texans with RGIII under center. Since then, he's averaged just over six a game with Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy. The good news is RGIII could be back after the bye - if not this week - in Week 11. For now, Garcon is ranked 26th in a not so friendly matchup against the Vikings this week.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 - Garcon vs. Dallas
Pierre Garcon finished with five catches for 87 yards and a TD on six targets. It's a bit misleading because a kind of fluky 70-yard TD is part of the final totals.

The good news is it's now back-to-back weeks with TDs for Garcon. However, he's only been targeted 12 times total the past two weeks and that was a typical game for him most weeks last year. Now, Colt McCoy looks like he'll be under center in a tough matchup against Dallas. The Cowboys are fifth in allowing fantasy points to WRs so Garcon is again way down our list of receivers and is a bit of a risky play given the matchup and QB situation. The good new is Robert Griffin III could be back by next week and there are a couple of more friendly matchups in the future.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 - Garcon vs. Tennessee
Pierre Garcon didn't have a great game last week but fantasy owners were relieved by a TD catch to at least salvage something out of his start. Outside of that it was just four catches for 31 yards on six targets.

Garcon's targets are perhaps the most notable stat. He's averaged just five over the last three games with a total line of 8-82-1 in that three-game span. Not what owners have been used to, especially when he averaged around 12 targets per game last season. This week it's a decent matchup as the Titans are just 20th in allowing fantasy points to WRs. Garcon ranks below DeSean Jackson this week who continued his big play stretch. He remains a bit of a risk these days.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 - Garcon vs. Arizona
Pierre Garcon had two catches for 23 yards last week and was only targeted three times as DeSean Jackson stole the show in a loss to Seattle.

It's been back-to-back tough matchups for Garcon vs. the Giants and Seahawks and the end result has been a combined four catches for 51 yards on just nine targets in Weeks 4 and 5. The good news is things get better this week, at least on paper, as Arizona actually ranks just 31st in allowing fantasy points to WRs. While it's a good matchup on paper, we have Garcon as just a high end WR3 in our rankings at 22nd. It will be interesting to see if the Cards put Patrick Peterson on Garcon or Jackson this week.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 - Garcon vs. Seattle
Garcon and the passing game didn't show a whole lot last week against the Giants. Garcon caught two balls on six targets for just 28 yards.

So after a tough Week 4, the Skins get Seattle in Week 5 and the outlook isn't great. The Seahawks are second in allowing fantasy points to WRs so Garcon is way down our WR list this week at 31st. That makes him a low-end WR3. We'd feel much better about this if he was coming off a good game in Week 4 but that's not the case. He's struggled to be consistent this year with two starts with six or less targets and two others getting 12 or more. Start Garcon with caution this week.
