MIA WR Preston Williams - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Buffalo Bills

Preston Williams saw a team-high seven targets in Week 1, but only finished with two receptions for 41 yards. Williams became the No. 1 option in Miami last week after DeVante Parker went down with an injury. That left Williams to be covered by Stephon Gilmore, which helps explain the low catch percentage. If Parker is unable to play again, that leaves Williams to be covered by another top-tier corner in Tre'Davious White. It'll be a tough matchup, which is why we have Williams in WR3 range for Week 2. We're projecting around a 4.1-55.8-0.4 outing for Williams.

MIA WR Preston Williams - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at New England Patriots

Preston Williams was having a strong rookie season as an undrafted free agent before a torn ACL ended his year. He was averaging around 53 yards per game as a rookie, and we'd expect him to finish slightly below that mark in Week 1 as he gets a tough matchup against the Patriots. Williams should be viewed in the WR4 range this week. Williams has been limited in practice this week with a knee injury.

MIA WR Preston Williams - 2020 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Preston Williams was the Dolphins’ leading receiver in 2019 before his injury. He entered as an undrafted rookie and left with a solid 32-428-3 stat line in eight games. He showed enough promise to earn a starting role outside of DeVante Parker for 2020. He’s a tall (6'5) target with great athleticism, and has enough talent to produce WR2 numbers.

Fantasy Downside
The obvious downside to Williams is the fact he tore his ACL last season, and his recovery is somewhat questionable. The Miami Herald reports Williams should be ready by the start of the season, but we won’t truly know until that point comes. Williams’ role also took a bit of a hit with Parker’s breakout season in 2019.

2020 Bottom Line
If Williams is able to go by Week 1 with no problems, he could be a steal. His ADP is extremely low right now as fantasy owners are concerned about his health situation. While his numbers don’t scream elite talent, he does show high upside. And he’s in a good role with an improved quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa. Williams’ health is worth monitoring, but he’s not a bad player to take a late-round flier on.

MIA WR Preston Williams - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. New York Jets

Preston Williams finished 4-42 on seven targets last week in another OK performance. Williams has played well as an undrafted rookie, but his ceiling is limited in Miami’s offense. Touchdowns are hard to come by, and Williams has only scored once all year. He’s averaging 3-4 receptions for about 50 receiving yards per game, which is about what you can expect from him this week against the Jets. He should be viewed as a WR3.

MIA WR Preston Williams - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Pittsburgh Steelers

Preston Williams finished 6-82 last week as the Dolphins had their best passing game of the season. But he faces a Steelers defense this week that is allowing 162 receiving yards to wideouts each game. Miami would need another big passing performance for Williams to have that type of production again, which seems unlikely. Instead, expect numbers more around 4-50. Williams should be viewed more as a low-end WR3 or WR4 this week against Pittsburgh.

MIA WR Preston Williams - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Buffalo Bills

Preston Williams leads Miami in targets (36) and receiving yards (232), but he hasn't even hit double-digit scoring in PPR leagues this season. He's been impressive as an undrafted rookie, but his ceiling is limited in such a bad Dolphins offense. And he faces a brutal matchup against the Bills this week as Buffalo has allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points to receivers. Williams should be viewed as a WR4 option in Week 7.

MIA WR Preston Williams - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Washington Redskins

Preston Williams has been somewhat serviceable in fantasy as a rookie. It's hard to put up too much production on a team that's trying to lose. He gets a great matchup this week against the Redskins who are allowing the third-most fantasy points to receivers. He's had four receptions in three straight games averaging ~50 yards so you can expect production somewhere in that range. He should be viewed as a WR4.
