Fantasy Upside
Rachaad White became a solid contributor in his rookie season, finishing with 771 scrimmage yards with three total touchdowns. He was a solid receiving threat with 50 receptions, most of which came late in the season when he became the starter. From Week 10 through the end of the season, White was the fantasy RB29. Heading into 2023, White’s role is expected to increase following the departure of Leonard Fournette. The Bucs brought in Chase Edmonds this offseason, but he’s not as much of a threat. White is a solid player who should see plenty of touches as the RB1 in this offense. He’ll likely finish around 1,000 scrimmage yards this season, based on our projections.
Fantasy Downside
While White did have some success as a rookie, he wasn’t a strong runner. He was 55th out of 62 eligible running backs in PFF’s rushing grade. And throughout the 2022 season, he averaged just 3.73 yards per carry. White also wasn’t much of a red zone threat, scoring just once on the ground. There’s also the notable absence of quarterback Tom Brady, who had the third-most passing yards in the league last season. This offense as a whole is likely to take a step back this year, meaning less production for White.
2023 Bottom Line
White is a capable running back who can catch the ball and run well enough. Fournette leaving will do wonders for White as he enters his second season. He’ll need to turn into more of a scorer, though. Overall, White is someone who will flirt with 1,000 scrimmage yards and could have 40-50 receptions, making him a valuable player in PPR formats. He’s good value around the 6-7 round range in 12-team redraft leagues.
