TB RB Rachaad White - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Chicago Bears

Rachaad White saw solid usage in Week 1, rushing a team-high 17 times. But he only finished with 39 yards on the ground while adding 10 yards on two catches. He was easily the lead back, though, playing on 79% of the offensive snaps compare to Sean Tucker who played on 15%, or Chase Edmonds who played 12%. White gets a solid matchup vs. the Bears in Week 2, where we'd expect his yardage numbers to go up from last week. We like White as a strong RB2 play in Week 2.

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Minnesota Vikings

Rachaad White finished with 771 scrimmage yards as a rookie despite playing second-fiddle to Leonard Fournette. Fournette is gone now, and White doesn't have a ton of competition behind him. The Bucs' backfield only includes undrafted rookie Sean Tucker and veteran Chase Edmonds. White draws an OK matchup vs. the Vikings, who were a middle-of-the-road team when it came to giving up fantasy points to running backs last season. Since White will get the bulk of the touches in this backfield, he should be viewed as a strong RB2 play in Week 1.

TB RB Rachaad White - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Rachaad White became a solid contributor in his rookie season, finishing with 771 scrimmage yards with three total touchdowns. He was a solid receiving threat with 50 receptions, most of which came late in the season when he became the starter. From Week 10 through the end of the season, White was the fantasy RB29. Heading into 2023, White’s role is expected to increase following the departure of Leonard Fournette. The Bucs brought in Chase Edmonds this offseason, but he’s not as much of a threat. White is a solid player who should see plenty of touches as the RB1 in this offense. He’ll likely finish around 1,000 scrimmage yards this season, based on our projections.

Fantasy Downside
While White did have some success as a rookie, he wasn’t a strong runner. He was 55th out of 62 eligible running backs in PFF’s rushing grade. And throughout the 2022 season, he averaged just 3.73 yards per carry. White also wasn’t much of a red zone threat, scoring just once on the ground. There’s also the notable absence of quarterback Tom Brady, who had the third-most passing yards in the league last season. This offense as a whole is likely to take a step back this year, meaning less production for White.

2023 Bottom Line
White is a capable running back who can catch the ball and run well enough. Fournette leaving will do wonders for White as he enters his second season. He’ll need to turn into more of a scorer, though. Overall, White is someone who will flirt with 1,000 scrimmage yards and could have 40-50 receptions, making him a valuable player in PPR formats. He’s good value around the 6-7 round range in 12-team redraft leagues.

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Carolina Panthers

Rachaad White took a back seat to Leonard Fournette last week seeing 11 offensive touches to the veteran's 29. But the rookie still shined with 53 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. White has technically started every game since Week 10, and in that span (six games) he's averaged 76 scrimmage yards per game. This week he draws a tough matchup against the Panthers (9th aFPA). White did play against Carolina earlier in the year (32 scrimmage yards), but he wasn't in the same role he is now. It's not a great matchup, but White should be viewed as a decent RB3/flex option in Week 17.

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Arizona Cardinals

Rachaad White led the Bucs in carries last week with 11, but it was only one more than teammate Leonard Fournette. White ran for 38 yards on those carries, and added five yards on one catch (two targets). It was a pretty disappointing game from White, but his usage pretty much remained the same. He just drew a tough matchup. Things get easier this week as White faces a favorable Cardinals defense (29th aFPA). White's ceiling is capped because he's splitting touches with Fournette, and the Bucs like the veteran more than the rookie when it comes to receiving the ball. Owners will need to hope White ends up finding the end zone to make up for the lack of production as a receiving threat. White should be viewed as a solid RB3/flex option for Week 16.

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

With Leonard Fournette healthy, the Bucs split duties pretty evenly with him and Rachaad White last week. Fournette played 47% of the snaps with 10 touches while White played 54% of the snaps with 18 touches. Overall, White ran 13 times for 56 yards and caught five passes for 21 yards (on five targets), although he also lost a fumble. Expect the Bucs to continue to split touches between their two backs as they head into Week 15 in an OK matchup vs. the Bengals (17th aFPA). White should be viewed as a mid-tier RB2 option with some upside.

TB RB Rachaad White - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at San Francisco 49ers

Rachaad White ran nine times for 28 yards last week, but he did most of his damage as a receiving threat. White saw eight targets and finished with six receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown. In fact, it was the game-winning touchdown, and a clip from the broadcast showed Tom Brady requested White be in the game over Fournette in that situation. Fournette will still be heavily involved in the offense, but it's another sign that Brady and the Bucs have a lot of trust in the rookie running back. Unfortunately for White owners, the Bucs draw a brutal matchup against the 49ers this week. San Francisco has given up the fewest average fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. White should be viewed as a lower-end RB2 option in Week 14 given his split touches and tough matchup.
