Scouting report

MIA RB Raheem Mostert - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Los Angeles Rams

Raheem Mostert is no longer the 1A to Achane's 1B in the Dolphins backfield, but he still has a fairly sizable role as he got 10 carries and 2 targets last week. He did cede some work to Jaylen Wright after his fumble though, so there is some concern about just how secure his role is.

The Rams are 15th aFPA against running backs this season. Assuming Mostert isn't going to lose more work to Jaylen Wright after his fumble last week this should be a solid matchup for him. A lot comes down to whether or not he gets a touchdown. He'll be a RB3/flex option if he scores and closer to a bench option if he doesn't. The matchup is solid, the role is a bit dicier than you'd prefer, but in a high-scoring game he makes sense as a flex option.

MIA RB Raheem Mostert - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Buffalo Bills

While De'Von Achane has taken hold of the Miami backfield, there is still a role for Raheem Mostert. Unfortunately, he's mostly been relegated to the goal-line role, but that can pay dividends in matchups where the Dolphins are expected to score a lot of points or can win on the ground.

The Bills are 25th aFPA against running backs this season so we could see a heavy dose of Mostert and Achane as that is the way to beat the Bills. He's a RB3/flex play this week, but he'll need a touchdown (or two) to offset his lack of volume these days.

MIA RB Raheem Mostert - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs Arizona Cardinals

Stability in the Dolphins offense returns as Tua Tagovailoa is healthy. Raheem Mostert had a decent game while Tagovailoa was out, but his ceiling is clearly higher when he is in.

Arizona is 12th aFPA against running backs, but the elevated ceiling of the offense gives Mostert a chance to out-perform expectations. He's a back-end RB3 or flex option this week, but if he gets in the end zone he could easily be an RB2 this week.

MIA RB Raheem Mostert - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Indianapolis Colts

Raheem Mostert returned against the Patriots before the bye and without De'Von Achane for most of the game, Mostert finished with 80 scoreless yards on 19 carries and had 2 catches for 18 yards.

The matchup against the Colts is certainly exploitable (24th aFPA against running backs), but do the Dolphins have the quarterback play to do so? That's the biggest question right now facing this offense. With Achane back the ceiling is lowered a bit on Mostert and he'll need a touchdown to be fantasy viable.

MIA RB Raheem Mostert - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at New England Patriots

After getting injured in Week 1, we haven't seen Raheem Mostert. While the offense isn't in a great spot, Mostert returning to action is a welcomed sight.

Mostert is a RB3/flex option this week in a difficult matchup against the Patriots. New England ranks 7th aFPA against running backs so far this season so it's not the best matchup to return for.

MIA RB Raheem Mostert - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Coming off a season with 21 touchdowns (18 on the ground, 3 receiving) we certainly expect some touchdown regression for Raheem Mostert, but he's still, at worst, the 1B to De'Von Achane and the presumed goal-line back in one of the best offenses in football.

While Mostert will have more appeal in standard or half-PPR formats, he's not a total dud in PPR. With the goal line role in a game with a total at 49 and a team total north of 26 points, they are in one of the best offensive environments on the weekend. Mostert is a solid RB2 play for Week 1.

MIA RB Raheem Mostert - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Similar to last year, Mostert is being undervalued in the draft season because there's just no way a 32-year-old can do it again! Except maybe he can? At RB27 on Underdog, he doesn't even have to finish as RB3 again this year to exceed expectations. He just has to maintain some level of efficiency and not concede the majority of the goal-line work that led to him scoring 21 touchdowns. Mostert still has to remain healthy, but the situation hasn't really changed enough for him to be going this low.

Fantasy Downside
The story you tell yourself if you're looking to fade is that age, injuries, or both catch up to Mostert and Achane takes over as the lead back in a 50/40/10 split with Jaylen Wright and concedes some of the goal line work. It seems more likely he concedes the lead-back role than the goal line, but injuries or age could derail it.

2024 Bottom Line
The bottom line on Mostert is that as long as he maintains the goal-line role he'll still be fantasy-viable every week. Going as the RB27, he's a strong buy in best ball and half-point PPR redraft leagues.
