Scouting report

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Cincinnati Bengals

Raheem Mostert filled in after Tevin Coleman got hurt last week and wound up with nine carries and 40 yards, including a nice 18-yard run. Kyle Shanahan clearly prefers to run with two backs, and with Coleman shelved for at least the short-term with an ankle injury, Mostert should get some work. He and Coleman combined for 15 carries last week.

Mostert has some upside against the Bengals heading into Week 2, as on the Raiders, Dolphins and Cardinals allowed more rushing yards per game to opposing teams last year and they gave up the seventh-most rushing touchdowns. Mostert has risk, but he should be good for some guaranteed fantasy points based on potential workload and matchup, making him a low-end RB3 option in deep leagues.

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Oakland Raiders

Raheem Mostert only carried the ball twice last week with Matt Breida active, gaining 18 yards. Mostert seems the most likely player to benefit if Breida misses time however, with Alfred Morris likely continuing to get two-down work in a change-of-pace role.

Mostert has sneaky RB2 potential against the Raiders, who allow the seventh-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs this season, but check the injury report Thursday night. If Breida is active, there’s no reason to trust Mostert will get the workload.

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Arizona Cardinals

Raheem Mostert got two fewer carries than Alfred Morris last week, but he gained 59 yards on the ground, compared to 25 yards for Morris. Additionally, Mostert caught all four passes thrown his way for 19 receiving yards. Those aren’t eye-popping numbers, but if he can steal away the primary runner job from Morris permanently, he could have long-term fantasy value in all leagues.

This week, Mostert faces a Cardinals defense that has allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs this season. While he’s risky because we don’t fully know Matt Breida’s status or how much work Morris is going to steal, Mostert has a lot of upside in a good matchup. The game should feature plenty of running, and he has low-end RB2 value this week.

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Raheem Mostert had 87 yards on 12 carries last week against the Packers as the surprise two-down back for the 49ers. Mostert may or may not continue to get touches over veteran Alfred Morris, but fantasy owners should definitely consider adding him in case he does, particularly with Matt Breida flirting with the injury report nearly every week.

Hard to start Mostert after one week of double-digit touches, so keep him on the bench until we know for sure what the 49ers are doing in their backfield.
