Seahawks went with Mike Davis at RB with Chris Carson out

On Sunday, in a mild surprise, RB Chris Carson sat out with a hip injury.

It was Mike Davis’ turn to dance.

“He found out when we were at the stadium that he would get the chance to start,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. “We talked about wanting him to start because he had more background and experience than putting (rookie running back Rashaad Penny) out there without any warning at all but knowing Rashaad would play."

Fantasy Impact: 

With Carson out, fantasy owners likely expected Penny to get the call. Davis was inactive in the season opener and had just three carries for three yards in the two games since. Penny did have a nice game, running nine times for 49 yards.

Fantasy Impact: 

Carson is dealing with a hip injury and was expected to suit up but will not this week, leaving Penny as perhaps the team's top ball-carrier. C.J. Prosise is also active today. Meanwhile, Baldwin will go after taking full reps. We consider him a WR2 option despite dealing with issues with both knees.

HC Pete Carroll also made clear Monday that the team will continue to look for ways to get Rashaad Penny in the game. The way the Seahawks appeared to be using them Sunday — two series for Chris Carson, one for Penny to start out and then ride the hot hand — might be a logical way they will go for a while.

Fantasy Impact: 

Carson had a bit of a breakout game, carrying 32 times for 102 yards while Penny had just three carries and while he wasn't credited with a fumble, the story made it seem like it should have been his. The story said the team isn't going to give up on their first round pick after three games. Penny did miss preseason time with a broken finger.

Fantasy Impact: 

HC Pete Carroll said Carson was "gassed" from playing special teams, thus the reason for not playing in the second half. He also said he wanted to get a look at Penny, who carried the ball 10 times for just 30 yards.
