SEA RB Rashaad Penny - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Dallas Cowboys

Rashaad Penny ran the ball 10 times for 30 yards on Monday, but the Seattle running back situation is muddled. Penny was only on the field for 37 percent of the snaps and is still listed second on the running back depth chart. The Seahawks are relying more on the passing game early in the season.

Penny will face a pretty good Dallas run defense. The tough matchup and snaps being spread out among several running backs don't bode well for Penny's fantasy status. Keep him on the bench for Week 3.

SEA RB Rashaad Penny - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Chicago Bears

Rashaad Penny didn't have a great NFL debut, carrying the ball seven times for eight yards. He did catch four passes for 35 yards, though, which gave him some PPR value. And he did have more touches than starter Chris Carson.

Penny is still nursing a sore finger he injured in August, so we expect similar touches early in the season. The Seahawks face an average Bears run defense in Week 2. Don't expect any crazy numbers from Penny and keep him on the bench this week.

SEA RB Rashaad Penny - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

The Seahawks surprised some people selecting Rashaad Penny in the first round. He had a great college career at San Diego State, including a senior season where he led the nation in rushing with 2,248 yards and 23 touchdowns. Seattle has struggled to find consistency from the running back position, which might explain why Penny was selected. The investment means he will be used a lot as the Seahawks see him as a featured back moving forward.

Fantasy Downside

Penny put up big numbers in college but didn't play in a Power 5 conference. He also runs upright, which can be dangerous in the NFL. There is a ton of veteran competition in the Seattle backfield. If Penny isn't deemed ready, he could lose some touches.

2018 Bottom Line

Penny has an ADP of 46 overall, which is high, unless you think the Seahawks are going to give him 20 touches from Week 1 on. Most likely, he will be their No. 1 back who will be spelled by veterans during his rookie season. Owners are drafting him like a low-end RB2, but he will probably be better slotted as a flex or RB3.
