Buccaneers QB Tom Brady will 'take my time' about retirement decision

Speaking to sportscaster Jim Gray in his weekly podcast appearance, Tom Brady was asked jokingly if he would retire and then unretire if tight end Rob Gronkowski — who has retired twice from the NFL — unretires again.

"Well, I think next time I decide to retire, that's it for me," a chuckling Brady said on their "Let's Go!" podcast, which was released Monday. "So whenever that day comes, we'll figure it out ... I'm going to take my time whenever that time does come."

Fantasy Impact: 

How the rest of the season goes could determine whether or not Brady returns next year. At times, he hasn't looked like the Tom Brady we're used to, but then flashes back to the 2000s in the blink of an eye.

Free Agent TE Rob Gronkowski once again contemplating un-retirement

Saying he was “bored” not playing football, retired tight end Rob Gronkowski contacted the Bucs last month about a possible return to the team. The Bucs had several conversations with Gronkowski around Thanksgiving about him possibly reuniting with quarterback Tom Brady to help the struggling squad secure a playoff berth.

Fantasy Impact: 

Even if he were to return, it is very unlikely it would have an impact on typical redraft leagues, but what a crazy wrench it would throw into playoff-only leagues. Gronk went 8-110-2 in the 2020 postseason and followed it up with a 9-116-1 performance in two 2021 postseason games.

Bucs wouldn't really say either way until inactives tonight around 6:55. All expectations after Saturday were Rob Gronkowski and team optimistic about him playing and making a healthy return tonight.

Fantasy Impact: 

Gronk is looking to make another return this season when a bad back took him out again a few weeks ago after a rib injury. At this point of the season, don't expect the Bucs to rush him if he's not completely ready to go, and despite a couple of unexpected losses in a row. If Gronk can't go, Brate and Howard could eat up those targets but they haven't been fantasy trust-worthy as of late. We'll know when the inactives come out later before kickoff.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski returned to practice on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact: 

Gronowski appears to be on track to finally make his return to the lineup in Week 11 after being able to practice during the first session of the week. The Buccaneers play on Monday night, so we will not learn his status until Saturday at the earliest, but this is a positive development that should give fantasy managers optimism. Gronk is currently our 13th ranked tight end for Week 11.
