CAR WR Robby Anderson - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

After finishing the 2018 season strong, Robby Anderson was disappointing last season with just 833 yards and six touchdowns on 78 receptions. Those aren’t terrible numbers, but far from the potential WR2 numbers expected from him on a team that was supposed to be on the upswing. Anderson struggled. The Jets struggled. And now Anderson finds himself on a new team, going through their own page-turning experience. We’ll see how Anderson fits in the new Carolina offense, but he has a fair amount of upside if he winds up getting starter snaps opposite D.J. Moore. Anderson can make big plays, as his 15.0 yards per reception last year attest. However, it’s too early to count on him with some unknowns regarding what the Panthers’ offense will look like, so fantasy owners should steer clear for now, even in a great matchup.

CAR WR Robby Anderson - 2020 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

After finishing the 2018 season strong, Robby Anderson was expected to have an excellent contract year in 2019. Instead, the Jets got off to a rough start, highlighted by quarterback Sam Darnold missing time for mono, and Anderson entered free agency on the heels of just 52 catches, 779 yards and five touchdowns. Anderson is a true deep threat however, who should stabilize the outside WR2 spot for the Panthers. He’s been known to explode at times and was better with Darnold at the helm. Once again, he finished the season reasonably strong, averaging 0.75 catches, 11.88 yards and 0.375 more touchdowns per game over the second half of the year compared to the first. If all goes well and Matt Rhule’s offense thrives in his first year as head coach, Anderson could put up viable WR3 numbers, with some quick-strike value.

Fantasy Downside

Anderson won’t climb higher than second on the depth chart behind D.J. Moore and he’ll be jockeying for targets with Curtis Samuel as well. Not to mention, Christian McCaffrey had 142 targets last season and isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has always relied more on efficiency than prolific numbers, so there may not be enough targets to go around in Carolina. Couple that with Anderson’s history of inconsistency and the outlook doesn’t look good for consistent fantasy production. Anderson may be the guy who blows up for the two games you don’t have him in your lineup.

2020 Bottom Line

Anderson is being drafted in the 13th round in 12-team formats, so even if you don’t love his opportunity and even if he ends up being wildly inconsistent, he’s worth grabbing for depth at the position. If you’re looking at him or Samuel however – similar ADP – then Samuel might give you a bit more upside based on his history of finding the end zone. Still, Anderson has been called a breakout threat on more than one occasion and it’s possible Teddy Bridgewater is the best quarterback he’s played with. He’s worth a gamble if you’re grabbing him late and you don’t need to count on him.

NYJ WR Robby Anderson - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Buffalo
Robby Anderson only had two catches for 32 yards last Sunday, but did score his fifth touchdown of the season. Despite the low output last week, Anderson had a better second half of the season.

Anderson has a tough matchup this week against the Bills who are 9th in aFPA to wide receivers. In the first meeting against Buffalo this season, he had three receptions for 23 yards. We don't expect huge numbers for Week 17. If you need a receiver, he ranks a low-end WR3 for Sunday.

NYJ WR Robby Anderson - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs Pittsburgh
Robby Anderson has been coming around in recent games. After two 100+ receiving yard games, he came back down to earth last week, but still managed four receptions for 66 yards.

Anderson will face Pittsburgh who is ranked 10th in aFPA to wide receivers. Anderson will be Sam Darnold's favorite target, but it won't be enough to make him fantasy relevant. The Steelers defense is good enough to force Anderson to the bench for Week 16.

NYJ WR Robby Anderson - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Baltimore
We had a feeling Robby Anderson would start to come around. After a slow first half of the season, he has put up back-to-back 100+ receiving yard performances. He seems to be Sam Darnold's favorite target in the last three weeks.

Anderson will face the Ravens who are fifth in aFPA to wide receivers. Despite the good performances recently, the tough matchup will make Anderson's night an average one at best.

Start Anderson as a low-end WR3 for Week 15. The 100 receiving yard streak will stop at two games. It won't be a good night for the Jets passing game.

NYJ WR Robby Anderson - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs Miami
Robby Anderson has been quiet for most of the season compared to recent seasons. Anderson broke out last week with seven receptions for 101 yards. It was only his second 100+ receiving yard game of the season, but the Jets might be leaning towards getting him the ball more at this point as he has always been capable of being a big-play receiver.

Anderson faces the Dolphins who are ranked 31st in aFPA to wide receivers. He had only two receptions for 33 yards in the first meeting with Miami earlier this season.

Anderson ranks as a high-end WR3 and flex in standard leagues and a solid WR3 in PPR leagues for Week 14.

NYJ WR Robby Anderson - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Cincinnati
Robby Anderson had his best game since Week 6 with four receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown last Sunday. It was the second straight game with a touchdown for Anderson. It's been a tough season for him but maybe that game will wake him up.

Anderson faces the Bengals who are 19th in aFPA to wide receivers. That matchup and the fact the Jets passing game has found some life puts Anderson in play.

Start Anderson as a WR3 for Week 13 against Cincy.
