CHI RB Roschon Johnson - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at New Orleans Saints

Roschon Johnson made his return to the lineup last week and played an interesting role. He led the Bears running backs in playing time (36%), although he saw fewer carries (6) than D'Onta Foreman (9). Johnson also saw equal targets (4) and receptions (3) to Darrynton Evans. In total, Johnson finished with 31 scrimmage yards. Johnson will probably maintain a similar role moving forward with Khalil Herbert and likely Justin Fields sidelined. In Week 9, Johnson gets a fairly tough matchup against the Saints (13th aFPA). Johnson should be viewed as a low-end RB3/flex option this week.

CHI RB Roschon Johnson - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Los Angeles Chargers

Roschon Johnson has missed the past two games with a concussion, but he's logged full practices this week and is expected to return to the lineup. Johnson was seeing limited usage before his injury, but that's because he was battling with Khalil Herbert and in a way Justin Fields for touches. Both of those players are out this week, but Johnson still has competition in D'Onta Foreman, who is coming off of a 120-yard, three touchdown game. So even if Johnson is active, we're not so sure he's going to jump in and be the main guy now. In fact, we have Foreman projected much higher than Johnson this week. Johnson should be viewed as a low-end RB3/flex option against the Chargers (18th aFPA) this week.

CHI RB Roschon Johnson - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Roschon Johnson missed Week 6 as he wasn't cleared after sustaining a concussion in Week 5. Johnson didn't log a single practice session last week, so his status remains up in the air for his Week 7 matchup against the Raiders. He's expected to return simply because players typically only miss one game with a concussion, but every case is different so his health will be worth monitoring. If he does play, he gets a favorable matchup as the Raiders are 27th in aFPA to RBs. Plus, Khalil Herbert is out so Johnson doesn't have much competition behind him. And with Justin Fields also out, Chicago will likely lean heavily on their running backs instead of their undrafted rookie QB. Johnson should be viewed as a solid RB3/flex option assuming he plays.

CHI RB Roschon Johnson - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Roschon Johnson ended up leaving Week 5 early after sustaining a concussion. As a result, he's been placed in the concussion protocol and is now questionable heading into Week 6. The Bears could use Johnson as Khalil Herbert and Travis Homer are both dealing with injuries themselves. Assuming Johnson is active, he'll be a strong play as he should easily see double digit touches as the lead back. He doesn't get a great matchup against the Vikings (12th aFPA), but the volume will likely be enough to make him a strong RB2 play. If Johnson is unable to go, though, then D'Onta Foreman will be the player you want.

CHI RB Roschon Johnson - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Washington Commanders

Roschon Johnson saw his role dramatically decrease in Week 4 as he played a season-low 22% of the offensive snaps. The Bears were leading for most of the game, which meant they relied more on Khalil Herbert to run on the ground. As a result, Johnson finished with just six offensive touches (five carries, one catch) for 15 total yards (his season low). Johnson draws a fairly tough matchup this week against the Commanders, and his fantasy managers will hope he sees the field more often. Johnson carries some risk as a low-end RB3/flex option for Week 5.

CHI RB Roschon Johnson - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Denver Broncos

Roschon Johnson and Khalil Herbert are in a pretty evenly split committee. Johnson saw 10 touches last week compared to nine for Herbert, and played just five fewer offensive snaps (28 to 23). Johnson finished with 38 yards on the ground last week while catching two passes for 11 yards. Neither back has been able to really have a breakout performance this season, but that could change this week. Johnson faces a Broncos defense that was absolutely gashed by Miami's running backs a week ago. We wouldn't expect Johnson to repeat what De'Vone Achane did last week, but the favorable matchup makes him a solid RB3/flex option in Week 4.

CHI RB Roschon Johnson - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Kansas City Chiefs

Roschon Johnson had a long 29-yard run last week and finished with 32 yards on four carries. He also caught two passes for 10 yards on two targets. He played 10 fewer offensive snaps than Khalil Herbert as both backs have a pretty decent role in this offense. Although neither one of them have been stellar. Johnson gets what should be a tough test this week against the Chiefs who have given up the 6th-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season. Johnson is ranked similar to Herbert in PPR formats as an RB3/flex option this week.
