TEN QB Ryan Tannehill - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Indianapolis Colts
Ryan Tannehill is operating as a game manager for a Tennessee team that loves to run the ball as much as possible, meaning his fantasy status hinges on him being extremely efficient. The Titans have only thrown the ball 30 times in one game this season. Tannehill has had some efficient performances this year, but his floor is extremely low on such limited volume. Tannehill is currently ninth in the league at 7.7 yards per attempt, but he's only 26th in passing yards and has six passing touchdowns in five games. Those numbers add up to a QB2 in fantasy, and that's exactly what he will be for Week 7 against the Colts.

TEN QB Ryan Tannehill - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Washington Commanders
Ryan Tannehill ranks seventh among QBs with 7.8 yards per attempt on the season, but his raw volume stats are preventing him from being a consistent fantasy player. Tannehill currently ranks 28th in pass attempts, 25th in passing yards, and 28th in air yards. The Titans are leaning even more heavily into their run-first ways without a receiving talent like A.J. Brown on the roster, and Tannehill's fantasy production simply cannot keep up on such limited volume. Now Tannehill has lost rookie first-round pick Treylon Burks to turf toe, meaning he will have to rely heavily on Robert Woods, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and Kyle Phillips in the passing game. Even in a plus matchup against the Washington secondary, Tannehill is only a QB2 in fantasy.

TEN QB Ryan Tannehill - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Indianapolis Colts
After a brutal Week 2, Ryan Tannehill posted another typical passing line on Sunday by registering 264 yards, two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing), and an interception on only 27 attempts. Tannehill remains capable of posting efficient passing lines in the yardage department, but he needs to throw touchdowns to be fantasy relevant as he cannot rely on short rushing scores every week, particularly when sharing the backfield with a healthy Derrick Henry. Tannehill gets a mediocre matchup this week against a Colts defense that has been roughly average against opposing passer so far this year. Tannehill is a decent start in 2-QB leagues but he makes for a tough streaming option in most formats this week.

TEN QB Ryan Tannehill - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Ryan Tannehill had a miserable Week 2 as he was constantly harassed by the vicious Buffalo defense and was eventually replaced by Malik Willis as the game got out of hand in the second half. The result was a line of 11-for-20 passing for 117 yards and a pair of interceptions. The Bills are one of the tougher defenses in the league, but Tannehill has failed to establish a consistent connection with anyone in his limited arsenal of weapons through two weeks. The good news is he gets an easier matchup this week with the Raiders coming to town in Week 3, and the Titans continue to work talented rookie Treylon Burks onto the field with more frequency. Tannehill is back on the QB2 radar despite the rough showing last week, but he is tough to trust in single-QB formats.

TEN QB Ryan Tannehill - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Buffalo Bills
Ryan Tannehill actually had a solid performance despite the Titans falling to the Giants in Week 1. Tannehill completed 20-of-33 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns, a stat line reminiscent of his 2019 and 2020 seasons. Tannehill's performance is more impressive when you recognize that many of his targets went to the likes of Kyle Phillips (nine targets), Dontrell Hilliard (four targets), and Geoff Swaim (four targets). Tannehill did connect with rookie first-round pick Treylon Burks for three catches on five targets on limited snaps, but he could not get anything going with Robert Woods, who finished with a single catch on two targets. The overall lack of talent in the Tennessee skill group cuts into Tannehill's weekly ceiling, and he will face a much more difficult matchup in Week 2 traveling to play in Buffalo's home opener against a stout Bills defense. Tannehill's Week 1 performance was promising, but the big downgrade in matchup makes him an uninspiring QB2 for Week 2.

TEN QB Ryan Tannehill - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. New York Giants
Ryan Tannehill kicks off 2022 with a home date against the Giants, a defense that finished fifth fewest in adjusted fantasy points allowed to opposing QBs in 2021. Aside from a matchup against a stout defense, Tannehill will also play his first regular season game with the Titans' revamped pass catching core, one that lacks the established playmakers of years past. Look for the Tennessee coaching staff to lean heavily on Derrick Henry and the ground game in Week 1, meaning Tannehill will have to be highly efficient if he is to return numbers worthy of consideration in fantasy leagues. It will be interesting to see how Tannehill gels with Robert Woods, Treylon Burks, and the other weapons in Tennessee, but at least for now the uncertainty surrounding the Titans' passing game renders him a middling QB2 for fantasy players.
