Scouting report

PIT WR Sammie Coates - Week 16, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Baltimore
Coates is close to reaching solid fantasy status again. He had just one catch for 10 yards, but Ben Roethlisberger missed him on one deep pass and on another in the end zone. Don't be surprised if Coates is a factor this week, especially if Jimmy Smith sits out.

PIT WR Sammie Coates - Week 13, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Giants
Coates did not catch a pass last week, but on the plus side, he was targeted three times (including twice on deep balls). The Steelers want to re-establish that deep threat, so expect a couple of more deep balls this week. Keep an eye on Coates moving forward.

PIT WR Sammie Coates - Week 12, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Indianapolis
Coates hasn't been much of an option of late as he continues to deal with two broken fingers on his left hand. But last week wasn't a game for deep targets in Cleveland. That could change this week indoors at Indianapolis, which has given up 19 TD passes this season. Coates is Pittsburgh's biggest deep threat. Look for the Steelers to try to re-establish Coates as a deep threat this week with at least a couple of looks down the field.

PIT WR Sammie Coates - Week 11, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Cleveland
Coates was once again quiet last week, getting just one target on a deep ball. The Steelers seem intent on running him deep at least once per game, but he's dealing with two broken fingers on his left hand. Coates will be a hit-or-miss option the rest of the season and it's been largely miss for the last month.

PIT WR Sammie Coates - Week 10, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Dallas
Coates continues to struggle since his big game against the Jets and now has just one catch in his past three games. He was, however, targeted five times last week despite failing to come up with a catch, including a couple of times deep. Dallas has given up 10 TD passes to opposing receivers and the Steelers will continue to try to get him into the game plan to take advantage of one-on-one coverage. But he's nothing more than a flex play at this point.

PIT WR Sammie Coates - Week 9, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Baltimore
Nobody needed a bye week more than Coates, who had only gotten a handful of plays in the previous two games while dealing with a broken finger and cut on his left hand. That injury is much better now, and we should see Coates targeted on a more consistent basis again moving forward (especially with Ben Roethlisberger looking like he's on track to start this game). Coates is, at the very least, a decent flex play this week with some upside.

PIT WR Sammie Coates - Week 7, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. New England
Coates played last week in Miami despite a cut and broken index finger on his left hand, but he failed to record a catch on four targets. The Steelers won't fall into a fetal position this week without Ben Roethlisberger and will take a shot or two against the Patriots with Landry Jones. The likely player to get those shots is Coates, who should be better two weeks removed from his injury. That said, he's more of a flex play than anything.
