St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher says wide receiver Stedman Bailey was improving from two gunshot wounds to the head, but wasn't sure if the 2013 third-round pick would be able to return to the NFL.

Fisher said Monday that the injuries are career-threatening and is probably done playing football, according to Pro Football Talk. But the coach wasn't ruling out a return based on Bailey's progress thus far from the shooting in Miami Gardens, Florida, near his home, on Nov. 24.

St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey was in critical but stable condition early Wednesday morning after being shot twice in the head in Miami, according to multiple reports.

Bailey was shot twice in the head while sitting in a car Tuesday evening, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to NFL Media's Mike Silver.

Fantasy Impact: 

Bailey was shot while serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Wes Welker is back.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the former Patriots and Broncos wideout signed a deal with the St. Louis Rams, per a source informed of the team's plans. Coach Jeff Fisher later confirmed the addition during a meeting with reporters.

Welker's one-year deal allows him to earn, along with his base salary, up to $700K in incentives, based on playing time and catches, Rapoport added, per a source involved with the negotiations.

Welker worked out Monday for the Rams amid word that receiver Stedman Bailey will serve a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Fantasy Impact: 

Welker says he is now healthy but has been out of work since Week 17 of last season with the Raiders. A string of concussions sunk Welker's career with the Broncos. The Rams need all the help they can get through the air. Outside of Tavon Austin, St. Louis doesn't have a single player with more than 20 catches. If Welker can still play, he could see plenty of snaps for a team in need of a spark, the story said.

Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey has withdrawn his appeal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday, and Bailey will begin serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

Bailey was suspended four games in 2014 for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, but that suspension was shortened by the NFL and NFLPA’s implementation of a new drug policy in Sept. 2014.

Fantasy Impact: 

As the story said, Bailey’s upcoming absence would explain why the Rams had veteran receivers Wes Welker, Hakeem Nicks and Vincent Brown in for a workout on Monday.
