NO QB Teddy Bridgewater - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Jaguars

Teddy Bridgewater finally had his long overdue coming-out party in Week 5, throwing four touchdown passes against the Buccaneers. Now that Bridgewater has broken through the glass ceiling, so to speak, he now faces a Jaguars team that is in the middle of the pack in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks. Jacksonville is getting a boost in that Jalen Ramsey could be returning to game action this week. But Bridgewater has now shown he can spread the ball around and makes for a good streaming option in Week 6.

NO QB Teddy Bridgewater - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Buccaneers

Teddy Bridgewater continues to keep the ship afloat for the Saints until Drew Brees returns from his thumb injury. He also has not needed to do too much in the victories, meaning he has not been a top fantasy quarterback by any means. Over the last two weeks, Bridgewater ranks just 25th among quarterbacks in fantasy points, averaging under 12 points per game.

He does have a chance to improve on those numbers in Week 5. While Tampa Bay has shown improvement and a good defense overall, quarterbacks have been having success against the Buccaneers. Jared Goff just went for over 500 yards against the Buccaneers, though the Rams had to play catch-up quite a lot in that game.

Bridgewater is fine in two-quarterback leagues, but we're still looking for better options if available.

Week 4 vs. Cowboys

The Cowboys have been one of the better defenses in the league so far and among the best in stopping opposing fantasy quarterbacks. But they've also faced Eli Manning, Case Keenum and Josh Rosen thus far. Teddy Bridgewater is by far the best quarterback Dallas will have faced so far this season and Bridgewater helped the Saints stay the course in a big win over the Seahawks. Bridgewater didn't light the box score on fire against Seattle and that may be the gameplan going forward until Drew Brees is back. Bridgewater is fine as a starter in two-quarterback leagues but we still need to temper expectations for the time being.

Week 3 at Seahawks

While the Saints have not yet officially named a starter for Week 3 against the Seahawks, it's highly likely going to be Teddy Bridgewater. There's no question it's a significant downgrade from Drew Brees, who will miss at least six weeks with a thumb injury. Bridgewater went 17/30 for 165 yards in Week 2 against the Rams. Having a full week with the starters should help, and the Seahawks have a leaky defense, but have overcome that to start 2-0. Bridgewater won't sling the ball like Brees has and may not elevate the receivers outside of Michael Thomas as Brees does. Bridgewater is ok in a two-quarterback league, but you're not starting him yet in one-quarterback leagues.

Fantasy Upside
Teddy Bridgewater now has two seasons under his belt, and continues to progress as a quarterback. His overall numbers improved in his sophomore season, and he’s starting to get some receivers to throw to.

Stefon Diggs emerged last season as a rookie with some eye-popping games, and the Vikings drafted Laquon Treadwell in the first round to help out as well. Reports from OTAs say Bridgewater is focusing on the deep ball, which would be a massive improvement from last season where he only took 39 shots downfield.

Fantasy Downside
The downside of Bridgewater is blatantly obvious if you look at the simple statistics from last season. He averaged less than a touchdown per game throwing the ball (14 in 16 starts) and had the fewest yards per game out of any quarterback with at least 400 pass attempts.

The Vikings are a team that will focus on running the ball with Adrian Peterson in order to control the clock. Very rarely will you see them air the ball out a bunch. In fact, Bridgewater only had one game with more than 40 pass attempts. For comparison, Philip Rivers averaged 41 attempts a game.

Bottom Line
Bridgewater is a good quarterback, on a good team, with a solid offensive line and players around him to support him. But the Vikings philosophy of run-first doesn’t bode well for Bridgewater’s fantasy purposes, and that’s way he’s at the lower-end of quarterback rankings.

A bump up in production can be expected from Bridgewater, but we’re not projecting a huge year unless something crazy happens.

MIN QB Teddy Bridgewater - Week 17, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Green Bay

Teddy Bridgewater came crashing back down to Earth last week after his ridiculous Week 15 performance. Last week, the Vikings QB had just 168 yards and one touchdown, or a typical performance for Bridgewater.

This week he faces a Packers defense that he nearly threw for 300 yards against earlier in the season. Still, Bridgewater is the type of guy who finishes with less than 200 yards and one touchdown. In fact, he's done that in eight of his 15 games this season. He's not a great fantasy QB option.

MIN QB Teddy Bridgewater - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. New York Giants

There was absolutely no way to see Teddy Bridgewater's production last week coming. No way. Heading into the matchup he had 10 touchdowns on the season, and he somehow managed to score half of that in a single game against Chicago.

While Bridgewater's five-touchdown effort was impressive, we're expecting to see much less this week against the Giants. It's a favorable matchup, but Bridgewater just simply isn't known to put up big numbers. Maybe he'll do something. The Giants have allowed over 300 yards passing to opposing QBs in four of their last five games. Bridgewater should be viewed as a QB2 play.
