WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Terry McLaurin had his worst game of the season last week, but it wasn't due to a lack of trying. McLaurin had a strong 11 targets, but only finished 4-46-0, setting a season-low in receiving yards. He should bounce back this week against a bad Chiefs defense that's 22nd in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to wide receivers. Oddly enough, though, while the Chiefs are fifth in receiving yards allowed, they've given up the second-fewest receptions to receivers this year.

Still, we'd expect McLaurin to be just fine in what should end up being an offensive shootout. He's averaging 9.8 targets per game, and he usually converts on them. He'll be a strong WR1 play in Week 6.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. New Orleans Saints

It's officially Spooky SZN as Scary Terry McLaurin went off last week. He saw a team-high 13 targets, finishing 6-123-2. He admittedly got a bit lucky on one of the touchdowns, but it counts just the same in fantasy. It's the second time in four games McLaurin has hit 100 receiving yards, and he's had at least four receptions and 60 yards in every game, setting a nice 10+ point floor in PPR leagues. He gets a favorable matchup this week against the Saints, who have given up the fifth-most receptions to receivers so far this season. New Orleans is 25th in 4for4's schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed. Scary Terry should be viewed as a solid WR1 play in Week 5.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Atlanta Falcons

Terry McLaurin saw a team-high seven targets in Week 3, finishing 4-62. McLaurin has finished with at least 60 yards in every game this season, despite a pair of bad matchups against the Chargers and Bills. Things get easier for star wideout this week as he faces the Falcons. Atlanta isn't a dream matchup, but it's better than what he has been facing so far in 2021. We like McLaurin as a top 10 wide receiver this week against Atlanta. He should get plenty of looks since he's averaging 8.3 targets per game this season.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Buffalo Bills

Scary Terry had a great outing in Week 2, finishing 11-107-1 on 14 targets. Although his success was tied to a big passing day overall for Washington. It's hard to see another big passing game in Week 3 against a tough Buffalo defense. The Bills have allowed the sixth-fewest total receiving yards to wide receivers so far this season. But even though it's a tough matchup, McLaurin is Washington's only threat at WR, and he'll at least get plenty of targets this week. He may not repeat his 100-yard effort, but he's still a low-end WR1 play in Week 3.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. New York Giants

Terry McLaurin did the best he could in Week 1 as Washington's passing attack was essentially absent. McLaurin finished 4-62 on four targets. But that's a good game considering Washington had just 135 yards passing as a team. Unfortunately, McLaurin will be without Ryan Fitzpatrick for a while, so we'll have to see how he performs with Taylor Heinicke moving forward. The two don't have much history, only playing together in last year's playoff game (6-75) and Week 1 of this year. We'd expect slightly better production from McLaurin in Week 2 in an OK matchup against the Giants. He should be viewed as a strong WR2 play with upside.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Washington brought in Curtis Samuel to take some pressure off Terry McLaurin this year, but Samuel has since been placed on IR to start the season. So we're back to McLaurin being the only real threat in this Washington offense at WR. It's a role McLaurin has excelled at, averaging 70 yards per game in his first two seasons. He does face a tough Chargers secondary to start the year, but McLaurin has shined in bad matchups before. He rarely has bad games, finishing below 50 yards just four times last season. He'll be a solid WR1 play in Week 1.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Scary Terry McLaurin improved from his stellar rookie season, setting career highs in targets (134), receptions (87) and yards (1,118). As 4for4’s John Paulsen notes, since 2000, McLaurin is one of 12 receivers to average at least 70 yards receiving and gain 2,000+ total yards in his first two seasons. And last season he had high production despite having four different quarterbacks under center. Washington should be more consistent, and improved, in that area after adding Ryan Fitzpatrick in free agency. Fitzpatrick’s long-ball should pair well with McLaurin’s skillset, leading to an even better season in his third year in the NFL.

Fantasy Downside
While McLaurin improved in a lot of areas last year, he took a big hit in the touchdown department as he only finished with four scores. McLaurin is also no longer the only star at receiver in Washington after the team signed Curtis Samuel and drafted Dyami Brown in the third round. Washington also brought back Logan Thomas. With a more talented receiving corps, it’s hard to see McLaurin matching his 134 targets from a year ago.

2021 Bottom Line
While McLaurin likely will see fewer targets than a year ago, he should see higher quality targets in 2021. McLaurin ranked 126th out of eligible receivers in catch percentage a year ago. An improved quarterback, and better receivers around him to take the pressure off should help McLaurin improve on that number. We like McLaurin as a strong WR1 this year, and see him finishing as a top 10 receiver in fantasy.
