Fantasy Upside
He's the greatest of all time and entering his age 40 season, there's little doubt Tom Brady will continue to be an elite fantasy quarterback. The Patriots have only added more weapons by trading for receiver Brandin Cooks and signing running backs Mike Gillislee and Rex Burkhead. New England has also replaced tight end Martellus Bennett with red zone threat Dwayne Allen. Brady was second only to Aaron Rodgers last season in fantasy points per game from Week 5-16 among quarterbacks, after returning from his four-game suspension. Over the past six years, Brady has been a top-five quarterback in fantasy points per game four times.
Fantasy Downside
The only question one might have with Tom Brady's fantasy value is whether he will give owners a return on investment relative to his average draft position. Brady is most often being selected in the early portion of the third round but sometimes sneaks into the late-second round. It should also be noted, however, that in the second half of last season (Week 9-16), Brady was only 10th in fantasy points per game (18.3) after dominating his first four games back from suspension (26.3).
2017 Bottom Line
Brady is absolutely a threat to finish as fantasy football's best quarterback in 2017. At his ADP, something close to that will be required for a return on an investment that will require a top-30 pick in most home leagues. Obviously, it's hard to shoot any holes in Brady's resume. Ultimately, it's a matter of whether you want to draft a QB early or not in a very deep "onesie" position.
