DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Arizona Cardinals

Week 2 was a quiet week for Tony Pollard, despite a healthy workload against the New York Jets. Pollard's 25 carries brought him 72 rushing yards, while his seven grabs from eight targets brought another 37 yards. He failed to find the end zone, however, and only posted RB15 numbers with 16.4 Half PPR points. He's still the RB4 overall to start the season.

Pollard is not a player that fantasy managers should consider sitting, at present. And Week 3 against the Cardinals is no exception. Pollard's match-up is one of the very best for running backs across the league this week, and it should surprise no one if Pollard is among the leading fantasy backs in Week 3.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs New York Jets

Tony Pollard only touched the ball 16 times in Week 1, but he made the most of his chances on his way to 21.2 Half-PPR points. Pollard rushed 14 times for just 70 yards, but two of these carries ended with him in the end zone. His two receptions went for just 12 yards, but the Cowboys only needed 143 passing yards from Dak Prescott to see off the Giants. Pollard finished as the RB5 in Week 1.

The Jets, who take on the Cowboys this week, are not as fearsome a run-stopping unit as they are against the pass. Our numbers rate them as the 12th toughest matchup this week. Still, Pollard's role in the Cowboys offense makes him as close to must-start as you could ask for. He projects as a high-end RB1 this week.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at New York Giants

There are few players who have generated more fantasy buzz this offseason than Tony Pollard. Pollard was in an annoying timeshare with Ezekiel Elliott in 2022, although he still saw a career-high 247 opportunities. Pollard rushed 193 times for 1,003 yards with nine touchdowns, while also grabbing 39 passes for another 371 yards and three scores. Pollard finished the season as the RB7 in Half-PPR formats, averaging 14.3 fantasy points per game.

Elliott is now in New England, and Pollard is the undisputed top dog in the Cowboys backfield. He should see even more work as he looks fully recovered from the injury he suffered against the 49ers in the 2022 postseason. He's a locked-in high-end RB1 option against the Giants this week, a team that was middle of the pack against fantasy RBs a year ago. Set and forget.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Tony Pollard was an efficiency monster in 2022, finishing as the RB5 with 0.02 Rush Expected Points Added per Carry. He racked up 1,007 rushing yards on just 193 carries, all the while sharing the backfield with Ezekiel Elliott. Now Elliott has gone, and Pollard has (in theory) the backfield all to himself. Pollard was the RB7 last season while averaging 14.3 Half-PPR points per game. With an increased role, and a stronger emphasis on the ground game by the Cowboys, Pollard has a chance to be one of the elites at the RB position in 2023.

Fantasy Downside
Pollard is coming off a significant injury suffered during the Cowboys postseason loss to the 49ers, and may not be fully fit for training camp. There are also whispers that the Cowboys breakup with Ezekiel Elliott may not be a permanent separation, and even if Elliott does not return there is a danger that the Cowboys add a veteran back. This would confine Pollard to the change-of-pace role he played in 2022, and kill the dreams of fantasy managers across the lands.

2023 Bottom Line
Assuming he returns to something like full health, and that the Cowboys lose Ezekiel Elliott's phone number in the next few weeks, Pollard will be given the chance to transfer his efficiency into volume in 2023. He should once again be considered a top-12 option at the running back spot, and someone to definitely consider in the second round of drafts ahead of the new season.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Tennessee Titans
Tony Pollard came back down to Earth a bit last week. Taking a backseat in rushing attempts to Elliott, Pollard rushed nine times for 19 yards. Luckily, he was a factor in the passing game, catching six balls for 61 yards.

If Pollard can continue his involvement in the passing game, I am not too worried about his rushing numbers compared to Elliott. With Tennessee being susceptible to the pass, Pollard may rip off a few big plays when catching the ball. I am starting him as a high-end RB2 with upside. Keep an eye on the injury report, however, as Pollard is questionable going into Thursday night.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Failing to find the end zone, fantasy mangers may have felt let down by Tony Pollard. However, he still had a rather solid day. Logging 75 rushing yards on a team high, 19 attempts, he also added 31 yards through the air on four receptions.

While it's still a pretty even split among touches between him and Ezekiel Elliott, Pollard has been the more explosive big play back. Facing a stingy Philadelphia passing defense, Dallas may elect to keep it on the ground more. This would be welcoming news for Pollard as Philadelphia has been susceptible to the run as of late. Start Pollard as a high end RB2 with upside.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Jacksonville Jaguars
The gift that keeps on giving. That is exactly what Tony Pollard is. Rushing for 42 yards and a score on 10 attempts, he also added another 20 yards and a score in the receiving game.

Whether it is through the air or on the ground, Pollard continues to get it done. Going up against a Jacksonville defense that just got shredded by Derrick Henry for 121 yards, Pollard is set to have another huge week. Plug him into your lineup as an RB1.
