Scouting report

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Trevor Lawrence's career hasn't exactly gone according to plan. But he still has upside and now has a contract that ties him with Joe Burrow at $55 million per year. Lawrence still has Evan Engram and Christian Kirk to throw to and rookie Brian Thomas Jr. has plenty of promise. The Jaguars also added former Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis. Lawrence also provides some rushing value. He ran 70 times for 339 yards and four touchdowns in 2023.

Fantasy Downside

While he does have good receivers to throw to, he will have to adjust to an offense without Calvin Ridley and his 136 targets from a year ago, who stunned everyone by jumping ship in the division to the Titans. Lawrence also needs to show consistency and get off to a better start. Lawrence had just two games in the first half of the season with at least 250 passing yards.

2024 Bottom Line

Lawrence is being drafted as a mid-range QB2, which does give him some intrigue. He can be a top-ten quarterback with more consistency. He had a strong second half of the season and that was mostly without Kirk, who was out with an injury. More output like his second half and Lawrence should be in the mix to be a fantasy QB1 in lineups. He's worth a shot in the 10th/11th rounds.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Baltimore Ravens

It wasn’t exactly a stellar outing for Trevor Lawrence against the Browns last week, although he deserves a ton of credit for actually playing after suffering what looked like a serious ankle injury in Week 13. Lawrence attempted 50 passes, completing 28 for 257 yards and three touchdowns. But he was sacked four times and tossed three interceptions, finishing as QB15 with 17.4 fantasy points. This was just a tick higher than his seasonal averages of 17.1 and QB16.

Lawrence should not expect this week to be much easier, as he continues without the steady presence of Christian Kirk against a Ravens defense that ranks 14th in aFPA to quarterbacks. Lawrence’s wide receivers continue to play at an unpredictable level, and while Evan Engram remains a top tight end option, the inconsistent nature of the Jaguars passing game makes it hard to see Lawrence as anything more than a high-end QB2 this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Week 12 saw another strong fantasy outing from Trevor Lawrence, as he posted 24.6 fantasy points against the Texans. Lawrence amassed 364 passing yards and one touchdown while adding another on the ground, his third rushing score in two games. Lawrence finished as the QB6 last week but is still only the QB19 in average points per game.

The Bengals should pose a stiffish challenge to Lawrence in Week 13, as they rank 13th in aFPA to quarterbacks. But Lawrence seems to be in a groove at present, and his form plus the number of teams on a bye makes him projectable as a mid-tier QB1 this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Houston Texans

Trevor Lawrence had one of the best fantasy outings of his career against the Titans in Week 11. He passed for 262 yards and two touchdowns then added another two scores on the ground for good measure. Lawrence led all quarterbacks with 32.2 fantasy points, more than double his season average of 15.5.

Lawrence should be in line for another strong fantasy performance in what might be a shootout in the AFC South with the Texans. The Texans rank 30th in aFPA to quarterbacks this season, and Lawrence should be viewed as a mid-tier QB1 for his clash with C.J. Stroud in Week 12.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Tennessee Titans

Trevor Lawrence barely registered on the fantasy radar during the Jaguars drubbing at the hands of the 49ers. Lawrence managed just 2.1 fantasy points, a tally exceeded by 30 other quarterbacks last week. Lawrence is falling quickly from fantasy relevance, ranking 23rd in average points per game with 13.7 in 2023.

It doesn't look like things are getting any easier with a clash against the Titans coming up. The Titans rank ninth in aFPA to quarterbacks in 2023, and this in combination with his present form makes it hard to trust Lawrence as anything more than a mid-tier QB2 in Week 11.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. San Francisco 49ers

Trevor Lawrence is coming off the Jaguars bye week averaging 15.1 Half PPR points per game, good for 17th among all quarterbacks. He gets a 49ers side that has been reeling of late but still ranks 11th in aFPA to quarterbacks. Given the situation with bye weeks, Lawrence should still be viewed as a potential QB1, but closer to the bottom of the tier than the top.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Pittsburgh Steelers

Trevor Lawrence was effective in helping the Jaguars past the Saints in Week 7, although he didn't exactly light up the scoreboard. He amassed 204 yards and a solitary touchdown pass, the fifth game this season with one or fewer scoring strikes. This was enough for Lawrence to finish as the QB9 last week, although he sits at QB16 in points per game.

Lawrence has a decent matchup against the Steelers, who rank 19th in aFPA to quarterbacks this season. He should be viewed as a mid-tier QB1 option in Week 8.
