JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Miami Dolphins

Trevor Lawrence posted 273 passing yards with a touchdown through the air and on the ground in Week 5, and actually had another rushing touchdown overturned on an unfortunate replay review. Lawrence has been running more lately, which bolsters his fantasy floor even as the Jags are generally struggling to produce offensively. This week he matches up with a Miami defense that just got burnt by Tom Brady and the Bucs last week. The general lack of talent in Jacksonville and the usual rookie learning curve make Lawrence an inconsistent and sometimes frustrating player, but his QB2 status is looking better heading into Week 6 with the added rushing production.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Tennessee Titans
Trevor Lawrence's rough rookie year continued in Week 4 when he posted 204 scoreless passing yards and added 36 yards and a touchdown on the ground. To date, Lawrence has a 57% completion percentage, a 5:7 TD to INT ratio, and is only averaging 6.1 yards per pass attempt. Those types of stats are useless in fantasy barring significant contributions in the rushing department, and while Lawrence has some mobility, he is only averaging 20.5 rushing yards per game and scored his first rushing touchdown this past week. Week 5 brings a matchup with a weak Titans defense, but Lawrence is stuck in the middle of a mess in Jacksonville with weak talent surrounding him, D.J. Chark now hurt, and Head Coach Urban Meyer faceplanting in his first NFL season. Lawrence is a low-end QB2 option in fantasy and should be on waivers in the majority of leagues.

Week 4 at Cincinnati Bengals
Trevor Lawrence is off to a rough start to his NFL career, having managed to throw seven interceptions compared to only five touchdowns so far and struggling with his accuracy downfield. Rookie bumps in the road are common for QBs, but Lawrence was touted as an elite prospect and has yet to show that promise in a live NFL game. He will take on an average Bengals defense in Week 4, but he is only startable in deep multi-QB leagues where you can hope he racks up volume and counting stats playing from behind. For redraft leagues, Lawrence should be on the bench or waiver wire at this point.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Arizona Cardinals
Trevor Lawrence has had a rough start to his NFL career as the figurehead of a dysfunctional offense that has scored 34 points in two games. Lawrence is also tied with fellow rookie Zach Wilson with a league-worst five interceptions in part due to his league-high 36% uncatchable throw rate. Rookie quarterbacks are expected to struggle during their first season in the NFL, but the Jags have been worse than anyone predicted through the first two games of Urban Meyer's tenure. Now they will welcome a 2-0 Cardinals team to Jacksonville who should have no problem maintaining possession and moving the ball on the Jags defense. Lawrence could rack up some counting stats trying to keep pace with Kyler Murray this week, but the general dysfunction of the Jacksonville offense and his erratic accuracy to this point make him nothing more than a QB2 for fantasy purposes.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Denver Broncos
Trevor Lawrence had an uneven NFL debut where he threw a whopping 51 times, completing 28 passes for 332 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. The volume is encouraging, and while Lawrence won't throw 51 times every week, the Jags will be playing from behind plenty this season and Lawrence should be able to linger in the streaming QB tier based on the counting stats he can accrue in a negative game script. He will not be a recommended play this week, however, when he faces off with a stout Denver defense that dominated the Giants in Week 1. Lawrence's Week 1 combination of big-time throws and erratic decision making will likely end up embodying his overall play this season as a rookie in the NFL, but keep him on the wire in Week 2 against the Broncos.

Week 1 @ Houston Texans
Trevor Lawrence will make his regular-season NFL debut on Sunday when the Jaguars travel to Houston to take on the Texans. While Lawrence is being drafted just outside the QB1 range in season-long leagues, he is an interesting streaming or DFS option in Week 1 against what projects to be a terrible Texans defense. D.J. Chark, Laviska Shenault, and Marvin Jones should be able to create enough separation against Houston's below-average DBs to give Lawrence some easy throws and sufficient touchdown upside to consider rostering him in Week 1. Lawrence will likely face the typical rookie rough patches this year, but his Week 1 matchup is one of the best he'll see all season and makes him an exciting play in his debut.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Trevor Lawrence has been penciled in as the Jaguars' Kickoff Weekend starter since the club clinched the No. 1 pick following its Week 16 loss. He is the reason Urban Meyer is the coach in Jacksonville and the reason for optimism of a swift turnaround for the franchise. As NFL.com put it, "Lawrence is as pristine a product entering the NFL since Andrew Luck came out of Stanford." The athletic passer owns a quick release and fluid throwing motion. Lawrence's arm is plenty strong, and he can throw from multiple platforms. His accuracy is impressive and he can drive the ball to all levels of the field. Add to this his ideal size, mobility, the mental acumen to filter through progressions, and the ability to run an offense from the line of scrimmage, and Meyer (and coordinator Darrell Bevell) will have zero trouble designing an offense tailored to Lawrence's multifaceted skill set. The QB has proven he can be as comfortable running the option as he is from the shotgun spread or hurling the pigskin deep.

Fantasy Downside
It's completely valid to peg Lawrence for NFL stardom. But most young quarterbacks need to learn by failing at first, and it would not be a surprise if Lawrence struggles with turnovers as he adjusts to playing QB at the highest level in 2021.

2021 Bottom Line
Meyer is used to developing young players, and Bevell is a veteran play-caller, which should create a path to success for Lawrence. Throw in a supporting cast that now includes Clemson teammate Travis Etienne, James Robinson, D.J. Chark, Marvin Jones Jr. and Laviska Shenault Jr. there's enough to support a QB2 ranking and he's not without upside.
