MIA QB Tua Tagovailoa - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at New York Jets

UPDATE: Tua Tagovailoa is now expected to rest against the Jets, leaving Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starting QB.

Tua Tagovailoa had a bizarre game last week as he struggled early and was eventually benched for Ryan Fitzpatrick. Tagovailoa finished with just 83 yards and a touchdown, his second game (in four starts) below 100 yards passing. Despite getting benched, the Dolphins are planning on starting Tagovailoa again in Week 12, and he'll draw a favorable matchup against the Jets. In their first game against the Jets, the Dolphins finished with three passing touchdowns, but that was with Fitzpatrick. The offense has been much more subdued with Tagovailoa at QB. He's not a terrible streaming option, but he's outside of our top 20 quarterbacks in Week 12.

MIA QB Tua Tagovailoa - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Denver Broncos

Tua Tagovailoa finished Week 10 with another two-touchdown game, but only had 169 passing yards with no rushing yards. Tagovailoa has finished with 20 completions or less in all three of his starts, which limits his ceiling for production. The Dolphins simply aren't going to put up monstrous passing numbers in this offense. He gets a pretty middle-of-the-road matchup this week against the Broncos. Tagovailoa should be viewed as a solid streaming option, but he's outside of the top 15 at his position in Week 11.

MIA QB Tua Tagovailoa - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Los Angeles Chargers

The Dolphins leaned more on Tua Tagovailoa in his second start compared to his first, but not too much more. Tagovailoa had 22 pass attempts in his first game and 28 in his second. But he was much more productive in his second start, finishing with 248 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 35 yards on seven carries. If the Dolphins keep having fewer than 30 pass attempts with Tagovailoa at QB then his ceiling is going to be capped. But he's looked good in his first two starts, and should be a viable streaming option this week in a favorable matchup against the Chargers (No. 28 aFPA).

MIA QB Tua Tagovailoa - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Arizona Cardinals

Tua Tagovailoa wasn't bad in his debut from a football perspective, but from a fantasy perspective, he was awful. Tagovailoa didn't even crack 100 yards passing (93), finishing with one score, no rushing yards and a lost fumble. The Dolphins didn't really need Tagovailoa to do too much, but it was still surprising to see his numbers so low considering what Ryan Fitzpatrick did with this team earlier in the season. We expect better numbers from Tagovailoa against the Cardinals this week, but he's still not a great option. We have him as a bottom-five option among quarterbacks in Week 9.

MIA QB Tua Tagovailoa - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Despite Ryan Fitzpatrick being a Top 10 fantasy quarterback at the time of his benching, the Dolphins have opted to go with Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback. Although FitzMagic was putting up big numbers with the Dolphins, fantasy owners should limit their expectations for Tagovailoa this week. It's his first NFL start, and he'll face a tough Rams defense that's fourth in the league in sacks per game. Tagovailoa offers promise in the future due to his scrambling ability, but maybe not so much in his first-ever NFL start. He's near the bottom five in quarterback options for Week 8.
