Scouting report

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Tyjae Spears returned from a hamstring injury last week and may have gotten himself back into a timeshare with Tony Pollard. Spears had 10 touches for 51 yards last week, getting a bit more work as Pollard was out momentarily with a foot injury. Ultimately, Spears played 25 snaps to Pollard's 29. That said, Spears and the Titans face a tough task on the ground. The Vikings are one of the most stout rushing defenses this season, No. 2 in the league in both rushing yards per game allowed and fantasy points per game allowed to running backs. Spears is a deeper flex option.

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Los Angeles Chargers

After missing three games with a hamstring injury, Tyjae Spears is back in the lineup this week against the Chargers. But as we saw early in the season, Spears is the clear RB2 and a change-of-pace back to Tony Pollard. Between that, his injury and the strong rush defense of the Chargers, Spears is a low-end Flex option/borderline RB3. Spears may be better off on the bench this week.

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Miami Dolphins

Tyjae Spears has become a change-of-pace back to Tony Pollard. Pollard has 50 touches to Spears' 22 this season. Spears ran the football just twice against the Packers. Week 4 brings a more favorable matchup for the Titans, but Spears is a deeper-league option only with his limited work.

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Green Bay Packers

Tyjae Spears has started taking a backseat to Tony Pollard, being more of a change-of-pace back rather than the 1B to Pollard's 1A. He has 16 touches to Pollard's 41. Spears is also dealing with an ankle injury, though he did practice in full on Friday. Spears is a deep flex option as long as he remains a clear No. 2 behind Pollard, even in a favorable matchup against the Packers.

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. New York Jets

Tyjae Spears saw four targets in Week 1, but so did Tony Pollard. Spears also had just four rushing attempts to Pollard's 16. Spears will have a chance to make some noise this week against the Jets, who surprisingly struggled against the run last week and that was with the 49ers not having Christian McCaffrey. But for now, Spears is taking somewhat of a backseat to Pollard. Consider Spears a deeper flex this week.

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Tyjae Spears had a very impressive rookie season, compiling almost 850 yards from scrimmage and caught 52 passes. All while Derrick Henry was still rumbling. Spears had seven games with at least five targets. No reason to think his involvement in the passing game is going to diminish anytime soon.

Fantasy Downside

Despite his strong rookie season, the Titans went out and quickly scooped up Tony Pollard in free agency. Pollard is likely to get the early-down work while Spears could be the third-down back. This is going to be a classic timeshare in Nashville.

2024 Bottom Line

Spears was exciting to watch as a rookie and will be again in his second season. But with Pollard expected to get plenty of early-down work, Spears' fantasy ceiling is capped. Consider him a Flex with RB2 upside thanks to his high passing volume.

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Houston Texans
Tyjae Spears saw nine carries and an impressive six targets last week against Seattle, which he turned into 67 scoreless yards. Spears has been impressive at times this season and projects for an exciting role next year, but the fact remains that he is firmly behind Derrick Henry when it comes to usage. As usual, Spears projects better for fantasy when the Titans are trailing and that could be the case this Sunday when they take on the Texans in Houston as four-point underdogs. Spears' sporadic usage makes him tough to start in fantasy, but there are worse options out there for a desperation flex in deep leagues.
