Scouting report

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Atlanta Falcons
Tyjae Spears was limited to five touches in Week 7, but he had a good performance on limited usage by gaining 63 yards on that workload. Spears is still a clear second option behind Derrick Henry, but he continues to have a consistent role in the Titans' offense and still played 55% of the snaps last Sunday. Spears will project better for fantasy when the Titans face a negative game script, and that could come to fruition even more than normal with Ryan Tannehill now set to miss time. Will Levis likely drags down the projections of everyone in this offense, and a tough matchup against the Atlanta run defense doesn't help matters. Spears is not an advisable start given the current circumstances in Tennessee.

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Baltimore Ravens (London)
Tyjae Spears continues to see increasing usage alongside Derrick Henry in the Tennessee backfield. Spears played nearly half of the offensive snaps last week, and was even on the field with Henry at times. Spears saw seven carries and five targets in Week 5, and appears to have a clear role in the Titans' game plans regardless of game script. With the Titans splitting backfield touches, Spears still has a low floor but he has massive contingent upside in the event of a Henry injury, and could even have some standalone starter value in the coming weeks with injuries and bye weeks taking a toll on RB depth throughout the fantasy landscape. We can't recommend starting Spears this week in a tough matchup against the Ravens, but he should be rostered in all formats at this point.

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Indianapolis Colts
With the Titans leading the Bengals virtually the entire game in Week 4, Tyjae Spears had a limited role with Derrick Henry returning to workhorse status. With the positive game script, Spears only saw eight total touches for 58 scoreless yards. Spears is the clear backup to Henry but has limited standalone value as it is difficult to predict when he's going to see more than a handful of touches in a particular game. Week 5 against the Colts projects to be another solid showing for Henry with the Titans being road favorites. Spears makes for a good bench stash given his contingent upside, but he simply does not see enough opportunity right now to warrant starter status in fantasy.

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Tyjae Spears out-snapped Derrick Henry for the second time this season in Week 3, but he only managed nine total yards on eight touches with the Titans' offense getting smothered by Cleveland's elite defense. Spears has a role in Tennessee but he only sees significant snaps when the Titans are trailing the majority of the game. That usage limitation, combined with the Titans' overall lack of offensive efficiency through three weeks, makes Spears nothing more than a speculative stash in case of a Henry injury.

TEN RB Tyjae Spears - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Cleveland Browns
Tyjae Spears played more snaps than Derrick Henry in Week 1 but it looks like that snap share was based entirely on game script as Henry dominated touches in Week 2 with 25 carries compared to eight for Spears. Spears also only has three receptions through two weeks on six targets. Spears has shown some flashes of promise in his short time in the NFL, but the fact remains that he is stuck behind a workhorse back as a pass-catching specialist. Spears is a good bench stash as he has massive contingent upside should Henry suffer an injury, but he cannot be started in fantasy as things currently stand.
