The Buccaneers' receivers during the past two seasons were, perhaps, the youngest unit on the team. Leadership was practically non-existent.

Along comes Vincent Jackson, a proven veteran who was the top free-agent receiver, and there’s now hope of bringing some professionalism to a unit that sorely needed it.

“It’s fun to watch him work because he’s such a good influence on the other guys with how professional he is,” WRs coach P.J. Fleck said of Jackson. “He’s the first one in line, he’s the first one in meetings, he takes incredible notes. His notebook is immaculate. And it says a lot about him. If he keeps doing that, I think he’s going to get where he wants to be.”

The funny thing about Jackson, Fleck said, is that although he’s by far the most accomplished member of the unit, he’s arguably the hungriest. That’s saying something for a guy who has three 1,000-yard seasons in his past four campaigns.

Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman on the team's WR corps: “Obviously Mike Williams and Vincent Jackson are freaks. They are tremendous talents,” Freeman said. “Another guy that is just unbelievable – and I’m so happy and so excited about this guy’s progression with how he has come out and performed – is Preston Parker. He’s been unbelievable. And we have Arrelious Benn and Tiquan Underwood, who was a guy I traded with for the combine. He’s not the biggest guy, but he’s really fast and runs sharp routes. Arrelious is doing an awesome job. Sammie [Stroughter] is doing awesome – and so is [Dezmon] Briscoe.”

Throughout the majority of OTAs, Parker and Stroughter have been running second team behind Jackson and Williams, with Benn, Ed Gant, Underwood and Briscoe all rotating with the third team. Yet it’s clear that Parker is establishing himself as the team’s third receiver on the depth chart by doing some great work in the slot.

Instead of being a spoke in a team's passing wheel, Chargers WR Robert Meachem is as close to being the hub as at any point in his career. He is being asked to fill the No. 1 role that was vacated when Pro Bowler Vincent Jackson signed as a free agent with Tampa Bay.

HC Norv Turner: "Meachem can get up the field. He's a deep threat, but he's also a more versatile receiver than I thought he'd be when you looked at tape. He can do a lot more things than he did in New Orleans because they didn't need those things from him because they had other guys. But he's an outstanding route running, he's a good 'feel' receiver and he does have outstanding hands."

Fantasy Impact:

As our #29 WR, we're relatively high on Meachem. He has a good chance to finish as a fantasy WR2 and should be a solid pick in the middle rounds.

When asked about new WR Robert Meachem, Chargers HC Norv Turner said, “He adds a real speed dimension to our offense. He’s got a different type of speed because there’s some quickness involved. Vincent Jackson, as much as I love him and had a great time with him, is a build-up speed guy. I think Robert gives us a bit of a different dimension."
