TB WR Vincent Jackson - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Vincent Jackson - Week 4 vs. Pittsburgh

Vincent Jackson owners have to be upset at this point in the season. Through three games he has 10 receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown. Last season Jackson was capable of putting up those numbers in a single game (in fact he did, twice).

To make matters worse, it was revealed this week Jackson has a hairline fracture in his wrist. He plans to continue to play through the injury, but it has to be concerning for owners.

The only good news for VJax is a change at quarterback. Mike Glennon will fill in for Josh McCown. Glennon played last season and made Jackson into a top 15 WR. VJax averaged 10 targets a game with Glennon under center.

Jackson's slow start is worrisome, but he can still fill in as a poor WR2 option in a week with six teams on bye.

TB WR Vincent Jackson - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Vincent Jackson - Week 3 vs. Atlanta

This season hasn't been too kind to Vincent Jackson so far. He's caught just four passes in each of his first two games for 36 yards and 51 yards, respectively. The good news is that it's not a lack of trust between him and QB Josh McCown. Jackson is the most targeted player on the team after the first two games. He's also faced a pair of tough secondaries in Carolina and St. Louis.

He gets an easier matchup in Week 3 against the Falcons. Atlanta has allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing WRs this season. Jackson also torched the Falcons' secondary a year ago. Here are his stat lines for the two games: 10-138-2, 10-165-1.

Jackson has been a disappointment so far this season, but could bounce back in Week 3 against an exploitable secondary. View him as a strong WR2 with WR1 upside.

TB WR Vincent Jackson - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Vincent Jackson - Week 2 vs. St. Louis

Vincent Jackson saw a healthy nine targets in Week 1, but he only converted that into four receptions for 36 yards. Part of that can be blamed on the inaccuracy of QB Josh McCown. McCown struggled against the Panthers' stingy defense and Jackson suffered.

Jackson gets an easier matchup in Week 2 against St. Louis. He'll continue to get a lot of targets from his QB, but owners better hope McCown's play improves. If Jackson is able to haul in more of his targets he'll be just fine.

Treat VJax as a high-end WR2 option this week.

TB WR Vincent Jackson - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Vincent Jackson - Week 1 vs. Carolina

The Carolina Panthers were hard on receivers last season. They were the third toughest defense against wideouts in fantasy. They also only allowed six receiving touchdowns to WRs all season long.

Vincent Jackson faced the Panthers twice last season and had success against them. He didn't score a touchdown, but he did have 79 yards and 75 yards in each game.

Jackson should be viewed as a low WR2 option this week in a difficult matchup.

TB WR Vincent Jackson - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Vincent Jackson has remained one of the most consistent fantasy players over the last six seasons. Excluding the 2010 season (Jackson only played five games due to suspension/holdout) he has five consecutive seasons of 60+ receptions, 1,000+ yards and at least seven touchdowns.

During his last two seasons with Tampa Bay Jackson has had his best two seasons as a professional. He set a career-high in receptions (78) last season and yards (1,384) in 2012.

Jackson is easily the best receiver on the Bucs’ roster and the most reliable option. He’ll likely lead the team in targets for a third consecutive season. Only Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Andre Johnson and A.J. Green have more targets than Jackson over the last two seasons.

Fantasy Downside

Jackson is in a completely new offense this year. He has a different coach, coordinator, quarterback, and teammates at his position. It’s difficult to predict how all of these changes will affect his production moving forward.

The veteran receiver isn’t getting any younger, either. He’s losing speed and the ability to run after the catch. Out of the top 20 receivers with the most yards last season, Jackson (14th in receiving yards) had the second fewest yards after catch.

Bottom Line

Even with the new offense, Jackson figures to be a lock for success. He fought off double-teams all of last season and is the focal point of the Bucs’ passing attack. He should surpass 1,000 yards easily and could even have his first double-digit touchdown season. He’s a low-end WR1, high-end WR2.
