Xavier Jones (ankle) was waived/injured by the Rams on Tuesday, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.

The Rams backfield has been beset by injuries this summer, with Cam Akers (Achills) and Raymond Calais (foot) already on IR and Jones set to join them.

Fantasy Impact: 

Assuming Jones clears waivers, he will have a chance to return at some point this season once his left ankle is healthy. For now, Los Angeles will rely on Henderson (thumb), Sony Michel and Jake Funk at running back.

A source was able to confirm that RB Darrell Henderson sprained his thumb.

Fantasy Impact: 

Rodrigue went on to tweet there is no ligament damage. It's great news for Henderson as it could have been a lot worse. According to the source, Henderson is day to day; he left Monday's practice partway through and did not return. It's probably still a good idea to back up Henderson with Jones, who has made a name for himself in camp this summer with the injury to Cam Akers.

Darrell Henderson hurt his thumb, per McVay (who is literally just off the field) and he doesn’t have a sense of how bad it is/next steps yet. Henderson did not return to practice.

Fantasy Impact: 

This is obviously something to keep an eye on. Either way, if you have stock in Henderson it seems like a really good idea to back him up with Jones, who is having a good camp.

McVay: Xavier Jones is “going to carve out a role for himself”

In Cameron DaSilva's 'Stock Up, Stock Down' column, he noted RB Xavier Jones as a player whose stock is up. Rams head coach Sean McVay said Tuesday that he thinks Jones is “going to carve out a role for himself” and someone the Rams are “expecting to count on throughout the season.”

McVay also said Jones is a willing pass protector.

Fantasy Impact: 

With Darrell Henderson Jr. as the unquestioned RB1 for the Rams, Jones appears set to be the favorite to back him up. The second year back is ahead of Jake Funk, who has also impressed McVay according to DaSilva.
