Scouting report

BUF RB Zack Moss - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Houston

Zack Moss went from 10 to 16 touches from Week 2 to Week 3. He ended up with 91 yards from scrimmage last Sunday and scored his third touchdown in two games. The Bills are still going with a two-headed running back but Moss definitely has value in PPR leagues and is still the goal line back.

Moss will face the Texans who are ranked 12th in aFPA to running backs. His ranking stays about where it's been because he should peak at 15 touches each week.

Start Moss as a solid RB3 or flex for Week 4. The Bills should have another big offensive game and he will be smack in the middle of the action.

BUF RB Zack Moss - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Washington
Zach Moss made his 2021 debut and it wasn't much to watch from a touch and yardage standpoint. He carried the ball 8 times for 26 yards and had 2 catches for 8 yards. However, he did score two touchdowns both runs inside the 10-yard line. He appears to be the short-yardage back again this season.

Moss will get around 10 touches a game so he must make the most of it and those goal-line carries. Keep Moss on the bench for Week 3 with the tough matchup against the WFT.

BUF RB Zack Moss - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Pittsburgh
The dynamic duo return in the backfield for Buffalo. Zack Moss begins his second season paired with third-year running back Devin Singletary. If you look at the 2020 numbers, Singletary had more rushing attempts and started every game. He also had more total yardage. Where Moss had the advantage is in touchdowns.

Expect the two to share time again, but Moss should close the stat gap for his second season. Buffalo faces the Steelers who were ranked fourth in aFPA to running backs in 2021. We like Moss better in standard leagues, but not enough to start him for Week 1. Keep him on the bench as he will serve as depth as long as everyone is healthy.

BUF RB Zack Moss - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
In his first season, Zack Moss showed signs of being a quality NFL running back. Even though he split carries for Devin Singletary, he seemed to gain the Bills' confidence more as the season went on. He rushed for 481 yards and had 95 receiving yards. Although Singletary had more total touches, Moss missed three games and their touch rate was the same. Buffalo seemed to favor Moss in short-yardage situations including goal-line opportunities where he had the most carries on the team.

Fantasy Downside
The Bills don't seem interested in having a full-time featured back. They were happy with the combination of Moss and Singletary. What this means is Moss' fantasy outlook will be affected by the lack of touches and that will keep him down the fantasy rankings. Even with Moss being the short-yardage back, QB Josh Allen had half the rushing touchdowns for Buffalo.

2021 Bottom Line
Expect Moss to increase his carries and receptions, but not to the point where he will have a major fantasy impact. His ADP shows him going much higher than the predicted numbers dictate. He should rush for over 500 yards and double his receiving output. However, we expect Moss to still split time with Singletary which makes him depth for your team. Don't reach to get him in the 9th-10th rounds. If he falls past those rounds, he will give you some decent depth as your fourth or fifth running back.

BUF RB Zack Moss - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Miami
Zach Moss has had double-digit carries in three straight games although he has never had more than 13 carries during that stretch. He has averaged over 60 rushing yards during that stretch and did score the first touchdown of his career last Sunday. He has not been involved in the passing game.

Moss will face the Dolphins who are ranked seventh in aFPA to running backs. In the first meeting this season, he had eight carries for 37 yards. Expect Miami to play all their starters on defense.

Start Moss in standard leagues only has a low-end RB3 or flex. The Bills are still playing for the No. 2 seed and the running backs should still be splitting time in Week 17.

BUF RB Zack Moss - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at New England
Zack Moss tied his career-high with 81 rushing yards while getting 13 carries for the second straight week. He is not gotten involved in the passing game so his strength is in standard leagues. The running game has been average at best this season, but the Bills did run the ball effectively last Saturday.

Moss faces the Patriots who are 27th in aFPA to running backs. Expect Buffalo to use Moss and Devin Singletary on an equal basis.

For Week 16, Moss ranks an RB3 or flex in standard leagues. If you have him in a PPR league, you should probably keep him on the bench.

BUF RB Zack Moss - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Denver
Zack Moss was the running back of choice last Sunday. He ran the ball 13 times for 43 yards, almost twice as much as Devin Singletary. It has been hard to figure out who is going to get the touches each week.

Moss will face the Broncos who are 30th in aFPA to running backs. It's a great matchup for the Bills offense, but the problem remains will Moss get the carries?

We rank Moss as an RB3 or flex in standard and PPR leagues for Week 15. He seems to be the consistent goal line guy which gives him an advantage weekly over Singletary.
