WAS TE John Bates - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Chicago Bears

John Bates stepped up in the absence of an injured Logan Thomas in Week 5. With the Commanders playing on a short week, we'd expect Thomas to sit again. Bates was OK with Thomas out, finishing 3-39 on three targets. The week before he saw six targets, finishing 4-19. Bates has been OK, but he's not that exciting of a player. There are much better tight end options available in Week 6.

WAS TE John Bates - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Even though Ricky Seals-Jones was Washington's starter for most of the year and has returned from injury, it appears the team wants to test out rookie John Bates. Bates played on 75% of the offensive snaps last week and had a productive 2-45-1 game on three targets. Bates has played at least 50% of the snaps in seven straight games, drawing a start in most of them. But he's only averaged 2.0 receptions for 28.3 yards in that span. We'd look elsewhere at tight end for Week 17.

WAS TE John Bates - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Carolina Panthers

Logan Thomas and Ricky Seals-Jones have both been held out of practice this week, which means John Bates could draw the start for Washington in Week 11. Bates finished 3-25 on three targets last week. He's an interesting play given the fact Washington's tight ends have been successful this year, but he's risky considering he has five career receptions. We wouldn't recommend playing Bates in Week 11 vs. the Panthers.
