CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Dallas Cowboys
Ja'Marr Chase was targeted 16 times in Week 1 which was second most in the NFL. That created 129 yards and a touchdown reception. The targets were helped when Tee Higgins left the game with a concussion. His status is up in the air for Sunday.

Chase will face a Cowboys defense that was very good against the Bucs in Week 1 and allowed only one touchdown. One thing that was noticeable last week is that Chase never left the field on offense.

Chase is an amazing talent so he is going to be on the top of the fantasy rankings every week. For Week 2, he is a top-5 fantasy wide receiver against the Cowboys. Start him even if he might not get to where he ended up last week, but will still have some of the best numbers in the league.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Of course Ja'Marr Chase was the pick of the year in most fantasy drafts as his rookie numbers were through the roof and he wasn't taken until around the 6th round or lower in drafts. It's hard to think his numbers will go backwards this season so expect him to be one of the top plays each week.

The Steelers ranked 15th in aFPA to wide receivers in 2021. Chase was actually limited in both meetings although he did score two touchdowns. The other Bengals receivers were highlighted in both those games.

Chase will be the focus of the Steelers pass defense but that won't stop him from being a solid WR1 for Week 1. Expect 5 to 6 catches for 80+ yards. The touchdowns will always be the question as Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd are in the mix every play.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
One reason the Bengals went to the Super Bowl last season was the play of Ja'Marr Chase. The rookie put up ridiculous numbers catching 81 passes for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns. Top that off with even more success in the post-season and you can see why he is already considered one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. Chase's success was based on the ability to go over the top and his yards-after-catch ability, allowing him to average 18 yards per reception. The depth of the Bengals wide receivers also helped because it's hard to focus on stopping Chase when the other two are capable of putting up No. 1 receiver type numbers on any given day.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Not much negative here except there are two other pretty good receivers. There was a five-game stretch in the second half of the season where Tee Higgins was the leading receiver for Cincy. Chase is still the No.1 option but there will be games where he doesn't put up those type of numbers.

2022 Bottom Line
Chase is a top-5 fantasy wide receiver and possibly the No. 1 overall. It will be hard for him to exceed the 2021 numbers but he will probably get pretty close to them. His talent is unquestionable and his connection with his former college quarterback proved to carry over to the pros. Chase is definitely a first-round pick and will most likely be the 2nd or 3rd wide receiver off the board in the mix with Cooper Kupp and Justin Jefferson. Choose your flavor.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Kansas City
Ja'Marr Chase had his first double-digit target game since Week 9 with 10. He ended up with seven receptions for 125 yards, but was held out of the end zone. Chase remains the best receiver on a high-flying passing attack, but the negative is that Tee Higgins or Tyler Boyd can have bigger games any week.

Chase will face Kansas City who is ranked 13th in aFPA to wide receivers. Even though this should be a high-scoring game, the wealth will probably be spread again so Chase will be right in the middle of the mix.

Start Chase as a low-end WR1 for Week 17. The Bengals' passing game has been on fire so we expect another big game.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Baltimore
Ja'Marr Chase had his worst game of the season in Denver with only one reception for three yards. He has been up-and-down the second half of the season as the Bengals have had different receivers step up on a weekly basis.

Chase went wild in the first meeting with Baltimore with career-highs in receptions (8) and receiving yards (201). The Ravens are ranked 24th in aFPA to wide receivers. The numbers point to Chase having a big day again, but we think that Baltimore will find a way to make sure that doesn't happen.

Start Chase as a solid WR1 for Week 16. The favorable matchup definitely is in Cincy's favor even though they struggled last week. Chase is a tough matchup himself for the Ravens depleted secondary.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Denver

Ja'Marr Chase broke out of his two-game touchdown slump reaching the end zone twice last week against the Niners. He also had eight targets for the second straight game. He hasn't had that huge game since Week 7, but that's really not on him but more of a result of a very talented receiving corp and strong running game.

Chase faces Denver who is ranked 15th in aFPA to wide receivers. Again, if you are waiting for the big game, it's probably not coming this week, but he will get you consistent numbers that warrant him being a starter in your fantasy lineup. He ranks a solid WR1 for Week 15 against the Broncos.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. San Francisco

Ja'Marr Chase had five catches for 52 yards last week as Tee Higgins was the big numbers guy for the second straight game. Chase has cooled off in recent weeks with highs of six receptions and 52 yards over the past five games. He only has two touchdown receptions over that stretch.

Chase has gotten more attention the second half of the season so it hasn't been as easy. The Niners are up next and are ranked 12th in aFPA to wide receivers. We feel Chase is still the best option of the Bengals receivers and ranks a low-end WR1 for Week 14. Start him again San Francisco.
