Scouting report

MIN QB Sam Darnold - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Green Bay Packers

It certainly wasn't expected that Sam Darnold would be a top-10 fantasy option heading into Week 17 and championship week, but that's how Darnold's season has gone. Kevin O'Connell has resurrected Darnold's career (and maybe won himself Coach of the Year honors this season). Darnold gets another shot at the Packers, a team he had a very solid outing against in Week 4. Darnold went 20-of-28 for 275 yards and three touchdowns. He has thrown for at least 230 yards in every game since Minnesota's Week 6 bye and has thrown multiple touchdowns in a game in five of the last six weeks. The Vikings have a chance at the No. 1 seed in the NFC and Darnold has been a key reason for that. He's QB7 on our board for championship week.

MIN QB Sam Darnold - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Seattle Seahawks

Sam Darnold wasn’t anywhere near how explosive he was in Week 15 but still reached 230 yards for the 9th straight week. Minnesota didn’t have to be very aggressive in the passing game. Darnold has been nothing if not at steady this season as the Vikings have revitalized his career. He gets the Seahawks this week on the road, a place that’s always tough to play. But given how steady his play has been this season, even with a tough road trip on a short week, Darnold can still be viewed as a low-end QB1.

MIN QB Sam Darnold - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Chicago Bears

In what was touted the Kirk Cousins Bowl, it was Sam Darnold who had the last laugh. 347 yards and five touchdowns in Minnesota's 42-21 win over the Falcons to move to 11-2. Darnold has the Vikings offense rolling well, throwing multiple touchdowns in four straight and six of his last seven. One of those games, plus 330 passing yards, came in Week 12 against the Bears in Chicago. The Bears visit Minnesota Sunday. Darnold is a solid QB1 going into the playoffs, something we didn't think much of going into the fantasy season, but here we are. Darnold has the weapons to make a run in the fantasy playoffs.

MIN QB Sam Darnold - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Sam Darnold notched his third-straight multi-touchdown game in last week's win over the Cardinals. He has thrown for at least 230 yards in every game since Minnesota's Week 6 bye. He has a good chance to extend both streaks at home this week against the Falcons. Atlanta's pass defense ranks 21st and they have allowed 21 passing touchdowns in 12 games. Only six teams have allowed more and three have played 13 games. Darnold is worthy of a starting spot this week.

MIN QB Sam Darnold - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Arizona Cardinals

Sam Darnold may not be on the hot streak he was on in the beginning of the season, but he has been steady as of late. He threw for a season-high 330 yards (his first 300-yard game of the season). Darnold has thrown multiple touchdown passes in four of his last five games. He gets the Cardinals this week who rank 20th in passing yards allowed per game (218.6) but are No. 8 in allowing just 13.8 fantasy points to quarterbacks per game. Darnold is a respectable streaming option this week.

MIN QB Sam Darnold - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Chicago Bears

Sam Darnold got back into fantasy owner's good graces with 246 yards and two touchdowns. He has at least 240 passing yards in five straight games. However, he does face a Bears defense that ranks 9th in the league in passing yards allowed per game. Darnold is chugging along but should best be served as a mid-tier QB2 this week.

MIN QB Sam Darnold - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Tennessee Titans

Some may be worried Sam Darnold is coming back down to earth. It was a rough outing against the Jaguars, throwing three interceptions and zero touchdowns. It doesn't get much easier this week against one of the better defenses in the league in Tennessee, No. 1 against the pass (156.7). Darnold remains a QB2 this week.
