Scouting report

IND QB Sam Ehlinger - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Las Vegas Raiders

Sam Ehlinger struggled against a tough Patriots defense last week, throwing for 103 yards and a pick. He added 39 yards on the ground on five rushing attempts and has 11 rushing attempts through two starts, giving him some hope as a dual-threat option in deeper leagues. Ehlinger is too risky in most weeks, but he has some upside against a dreadful Raiders defense that ranks dead last in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. Consider him a sneaky low-end QB2 option in superflex leagues or leagues that start two quarterbacks. In 1QB leagues, he should remain on waivers.

IND QB Sam Ehlinger - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at New England Patriots

Sam Ehlinger had a modest 201 yards passing and 15 yards rushing last week in a narrow defeat to the Washington Commanders. It was Ehlinger’s first start and the Colts followed it up with firing their offensive coordinator. Even in what could be a decent matchup against a Patriots defense that ranks a surprising 21st in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks, Ehlinger is a risky play for fantasy managers. In leagues where you start two quarterbacks, you might be forced to use him, but in most leagues, he can remain on waivers.

IND QB Sam Ehlinger - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Washington Commanders

Sam Ehlinger had three rushes for nine yards and zero passes last season as a rookie, but he’ll still take over as the starter in Indianapolis for the foreseeable future. The Colts must see something they like. He has some upside as a gutsy playmaker who ran for 1,903 yards in four years at Texas to go with a college career 94/27 TD/Interception ratio. Time will tell if he can turn this offense around.

Ehlinger will get a nice matchup to kickoff his career as an NFL starter, facing a Commanders defense that ranks 28th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. If you’re desperate, there’s potential for quality play from Ehlinger, but fantasy managers should take a wait-and-see approach and we have him ranked as a low-end QB2 option for Week 8.

IND QB Sam Ehlinger - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Sam Ehlinger looks in line to get his first career start this week against a Raiders defense that ranks 26th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. While it’s a nice matchup, the Colts will likely try to win the game on defense and by using Jonathan Taylor, making Ehlinger a very risky fantasy option. Look elsewhere.

Update: Wentz was taken off the COVID list on Saturday and looks like he's going to start. Hopefully this doesn't affect your fantasy plans, as Ehlinger wasn't an enticing option anyway.
