Presumptive Browns RB2 Jerome Ford remains questionable for Week 1

Nick Chubb is as sure a thing as there is in the NFL at the top of the Browns’ running back depth chart. Things behind him are a little murky at the moment with Jerome Ford injured. Ford won’t practice the remainder of this week or play in Kansas City and is still a question mark for Week 1 against the Bengals.

Fantasy Impact:

Kevin Stefanski said Ford is progressing but added his absence presents an opportunity for other players down the depth chart, like Demetric Felton Jr., newcomer Jordan Wilkins, and others. “I think it’s great competition,” Stefanski said. “Obviously unfortunate with Jerome’s injury, unfortunate for Jerome, but a great opportunity for those other guys to get good reps out here at practice, getting great reps in the game, so I think it’s a great competition in that entire room.”

Reading between the lines, it seems like Ford is still locked into the RB2 role, whether or not he's playing in Week 1. He still makes for an interesting late-round dart in best ball leagues but doesn't need to be drafted in most typical redraft leagues.

Browns RB Jerome Ford was listed as inactive for the Hall of Fame game, alongside starting running back Nick Chubb.

Fantasy Impact:

This is a good look for Jerome Ford, who has been forecasted as the RB2 in Cleveland throughout the preseason. Chubb should be the head and shoulders workhorse back for the Browns this season, but Ford's current ADP has him going all the way back in the 20th round. In deep leagues, Ford is absolutely worth a look.

Per Zac, "Jerome Ford got the first action (and first carry) in the first team drill. Chubb’s absence makes this an even bigger spring for Ford, who impressed the team’s decision-makers as a rookie but appears headed for a much larger role this season."

It looks as if it was just a general rest day for Nick Chubb.

Fantasy Impact:

It looks like all systems go for Jerome Ford as the team's locked-in RB2, barring anything unforeseen. Ford was used sparingly in his rookie season, but the fifth-round rookie looks poised to take over the backup role that is currently vacant with Kareem Hunt sitting in free agency. Chubb should have a monster workload this season, but it doesn't mean we should ignore Ford in fantasy.
