Fantasy Upside
Crockett Gillmore had some quality games last season, fending off rookie second-round pick Maxx Williams for the starting job. He had a pair of touchdowns in an early meeting with the Raiders, and finished the year with year with 33 catches, 412 yards, and four touchdowns. At age 24, entering his third season, he should be a breakout candidate at his position if he can earn the outright starting job again.
Fantasy Downside
Unfortunately, Williams is still lurking, and the Ravens signed veteran Ben Watson in the off-season, who will presumably gain the starting role over Gillmore. Also, Gillmore missed six games in 2015 with injuries, and he has a nagging hamstring situation.
2016 Bottom Line
Gillmore has some upside, but a nagging hamstring and the presence of Watson on the depth chart makes him too risky to be considered in most fantasy leagues. His status on the roster should be monitored and he’ll be a nice pickup if something happens to Watson and Williams, but until the depth chart is less murky, it’s hard to recommend drafting Gillmore in any league format.
Update: Ben Watson tore his Achilles tendon in the pre-season, which makes Gillmore an interesting option. He'll still be vying with Maxx Williams for snaps, but he's outplayed him in the past and if he's healthy, Gillmore could be a legitimate streaming option or an upside option in large leagues at the tight end position.
