PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. New England Patriots
Najee Harris didn't make it through Week 1 and ended up with only 12 touches last week for 26 yards. Not what fantasy owners were expecting. The offensive line looked a lot like last year despite some new faces. The running game wasn't very good. We expect Harris to get 20+ touches each week when he is healthy.

The Steelers face the Patriots whose defense looked average last week. Harris is expected to play, but is he 100%? That will be a major factor as we saw what Harris is capable of last year, even with a bad line.

Start Harris but only as a solid RB2 for Week 2. Keep an eye on the injury list and if he is on the field for over 80% of the snaps, he will pay dividends for your team.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Cincinnati Bengals
You have to look at it this way. The fantasy numbers Najee Harris put up last year were impressive. Yes, he had more touches than anyone in the NFL which helps, but it all came with one of the worst offensive lines in the league. If the line gets better, Harris' numbers could be even better. However there is some durability issues with anyone who gets that usage.

Harris faces the Bengals who were ranked 21st in aFPA to running backs in 2021. He didn't fare well running the ball against Cincy last year with only 63 yards in two games. However, he did have 14 receptions for 102 yards in the first meeting which shows you he can be dangerous in the passing game and PPR leagues.

We are not sold the Steelers line is any better and there is also the question whether Mitch Trubisky can run the offense more efficiently. So even though Harris is slam dunk to start every week including Week 1, we have him as a low-end RB1 or even a high-end RB2 for Sunday.

PIT RB Najee Harris - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
The Steelers got exactly what they were looking for when they drafted Najee Harris in the first round. Although there were some critics, you can't argue with the production from his rookie season. He rushed for 1,200 yards and added 74 receptions for 467 yards. His touches were second in the NFL. All of this happened with a below-average offensive line and an aging quarterback. Pittsburgh wants to run the ball and we expect that will be the strategy this season. Harris is big, but still has good speed which makes a him a tough matchup in both phases of the offense.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Although Harris produced, there were many that thought the Steelers overused him and think that could catch up the running back. There are also concerns that the offensive line won't improve and the new quarterback, whoever it might be, will struggle.

2022 Bottom Line
The Steelers probably recognized they used Harris too much in 2021 so expect them to scale back his carries. We also don't think he will be used as much in the passing game. With that said, a fresher Harris could reach his numbers from last season without as many touches if the line does improve and the quarterback is serviceable. No doubt he is a top-5 fantasy running back and should go in the first round of your draft.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Browns

Najee Harris seems to be getting his groove back a bit. He has over 90 rushing yards in two of the last three games and over 100 total yards in three of his last four. He's on the verge of 1,000 rushing yards and with their backs against the wall, the Steelers are probably going to lean heavily on Harris on Monday night against the Browns. Only three times this season did Harris fail to reach 16 fantasy PPR points. That streak could very well continue Monday. He's a top-10 option this week.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs Chiefs

As almost expected, the Titans corraled Najee Harris and held him to just 26 yards on 14 touches. Harris has been running hot and cold in recent weeks. But he's played all but five snaps in the last three weeks, including all 49 snaps against the Titans. He's not going anywhere. It's another tough matchup against the Chiefs, No. 8 against opposing fantasy running backs. But just the volume of work that makes Harris a top-10 option at the position.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs Titans

It was a tough matchup and Najee Harris still totaled 104 yards and scored twice as the Steelers nearly stunned the Vikings after trailing 29-0. Harris has shaken off that quiet stretch he had a few weeks ago. So while it's another tough matchup this week against the Titans (No. 5 in our matchup rankings vs RBs), Harris has overcome numerous tough matchups all season. He's our No. 7 RB in half-PPR this week.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs Vikings

Despite the tough matchup, Najee Harris still totaled 107 yards on 26 touches. It snaps his little two-game dry spell. Now he gets his first quick turnaround in the NFL with the Steelers playing on Sunday against a Vikings defense that is on edge and has put HC Mike Zimmer squarely on the hot seat. Minnesota is allowing the four-most rushing yards per game. This could be another good spot for Harris, especially with Ben Roethlisberger banged up.
