Fantasy Upside
Chuba Hubbard had some quality games last year, especially splitting time with D’Onta Foreman after Christian McCaffrey was traded to the 49ers. He finished the season with 637 yards and two touchdowns, including 171 receiving yards on 14 receptions. In his two starts, however, he combined for 198 yards and a touchdown, including averaging 10.42 yards on 12 carries in a high-scoring victory over the Lions in Week 16. Hubbard is one of the few holdovers on this offense following a complete overhaul of the team and coaching staff.
Fantasy Downside
Hubbard has upside if he can land a role with double-digit touches per game, but with Miles Sanders now in town on a multi-year contract, it seems unlikely he’ll have a legit shot at the starting role. That will relegate Hubbard to mostly a handcuff role in most leagues.
2023 Bottom Line
Hubbard isn’t a bad back-of-the-roster stash candidate in deeper leagues, but his role as the backup is unlikely to yield enough production - and definitely not consistent production - to warrant serious fantasy consideration. If Miles Sanders gets hurt, however, Hubbard will quickly enter RB2 territory.
