CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Atlanta Falcons

Chuba Hubbard struggled along with the rest of the Panthers' offense last week against the Giants. He gained just 28 yards on 12 carries, though he added another 28 yards on four receptions. Hubbard is still getting the bulk of the work, so he has fantasy value and upside, but it’s getting harder and harder to buy into this offense.

This week, Hubbard should be the starter at least one more time against a Falcons defense that ranks 29th in aFPA to opposing running backs. As such, he’s worth a start as a solid RB2 option. Hopefully, the Panthers' offense can look a little livelier in a great matchup and open some holes for the rookie back. Workload gives him a nice floor though and we have him ranked inside our top 20 this week.

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at New York Giants

Chuba Hubbard had 61 yards and a touchdown last week against the Vikings, adding a single reception for four yards on three targets. Hubbard isn’t putting up big numbers, but he’s clearly the primary back for as long as Christian McCaffrey is out – at least another two weeks – making him a viable RB2 based on workload alone.

Hubbard has a great matchup this week against a Giants defense that ranks 26th in aFPA to opposing running backs. We have him ranked as a low-end RB1 due to the matchup, as the Giants are reeling from injuries on both sides of the ball. Expect the Panthers to return to the win column this week, and for Hubbard to benefit with a huge workload. Start him.

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Chuba Hubbard looks like he’s improving with every chance he gets, rushing for 101 yards on 24 carries in the loss to the Eagles last week. He also caught five balls for 33 yards. With Christian McCaffrey set to return, send Hubbard back to the bench this week, but keep him rostered as one of the most valuable handcuffs in fantasy football. McCaffrey has been plagued by injuries going back to last year now, and Hubbard will get double-digit touches if he goes down again. If McCaffrey is a late scratch, consider Hubbard a legit RB2 option, so keep an eye on the injury report.

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Chuba Hubbard filled in for Christian McCaffrey last week against the Cowboys and ran for 57 yards on 13 carries. He also caught two balls for 14 yards receiving. The Panthers fell behind pretty early in the game, so a more neutral game script in the future should help Hubbard get more touches.

This week, Hubbard faces an Eagles defense that just got stomped by Clyde Edwards-Elaire and ranks 21st in aFPA to opposing running backs. The Eagles have been wildly inconsistent offensively, so the Panthers' defense should be able to keep the game closer. We have Hubbard ranked as a low-end RB2 option this week, and he has a high floor if he keeps getting at least 15 touches.

CAR RB Chuba Hubbard - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Dallas Cowboys

Chuba Hubbard filled in after Christian McCaffrey got hurt last week against the Texans and wound up with 11 carries and three receptions for a total of 79 yards. Not bad for the rookie, who should take over the starting duties while McCaffrey recovers from his hamstring injury.

Hubbard gets the Cowboys for his first game as a starter. Dallas has been much better defensively so far this year, and they rank 10th in aFPA to opposing running backs. Last season, Mike Davis put up solid RB2 numbers filling in for McCaffrey, and he continued to be used in Joe Brady’s passing game. If that’s any indication, Hubbard could be very valuable while McCaffrey is out. We have him ranked as an RB2 this week based on volume, despite a surprisingly tough matchup.
