LV TE Michael Mayer - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Michael Mayer caught two balls for 27 yards against the Chiefs before the bye last week. Mayer is an interesting long-term fantasy option for dynasty players, but it’s really hard to trust him in fantasy lineups with only one touchdown and limited production thus far. The Raiders look a little better recently, but they still are far from an offensive powerhouse. Keep Mayer on the bench this week against the Vikings, who rank fifth in aFPA to opposing tight ends, as there should be better streaming options available.

LV TE Michael Mayer - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Michael Mayer caught four balls for 46 yards against the Dolphins last week as the Raiders struggled to move the ball, despite an off game for the Miami offense providing them ample opportunity to steal the game away. Mayer has 10 targets and a touchdown over the last two games, so there’s upside with the rookie second-rounder, but this offense looks like it’s going to be pretty hard to bank on for the rest of the season. Mayer faces a Chiefs defense this week that ranks sixth in aFPA to opposing tight ends, so this is definitely not the week to gamble on the rookie.

LV TE Michael Mayer - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Miami Dolphins

Michael Mayer caught his first career touchdown pass in a victory over the Jets last week, but unfortunately, he finished with just 19 yards on three catches. It was good to see Mayer get targeted five times, but the Raiders simply aren’t moving the ball well enough for fantasy managers to get too excited. This week, Mayer faces a Miami defense that ranks 17th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. Consider him a boom-or-bust streaming option at the position with more dynasty, long-term value than immediate lineup potential.

LV TE Michael Mayer - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. New York Jets

Michael Mayer had just two catches for 11 yards last week against the Giants as the Raiders won by running the ball and playing excellent defense against a struggling New York team. Running and throwing to the tight end have been the best ways to attack the Jets this season. They rank 17th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. Still, the Las Vegas passing game looks like a mess, making it really risky to trust the rookie Mayer. Fantasy managers should continue to view him as a long-term stash option in deeper leagues, but in most formats, he should probably be on waivers.

LV TE Michael Mayer - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. New York Giants

Michael Mayer caught one of two targets for 19 yards last week in a loss to the Lions on Monday night. Mayer is now a couple games removed from his breakout game in Week 6, and with an interim coach and quarterback change, it’s hard to know what to expect from this offense for the rest of the season.

Mayer may struggle in a tough matchup this week against the Giants, who rank seventh in aFPA to opposing tight ends. He has some upside as an emerging option at a difficult fantasy position, but managers should continue to take a wait-and-see approach with him for now. We have him ranked outside TE1 territory this week.

LV TE Michael Mayer - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Detroit Lions

Michael Mayer was limited to just 13 yards on a pair of receptions last week against the Bears. It was a disappointing game for the entire Las Vegas offense against what should’ve been a vulnerable Chicago defense. Mayer saw 71% of the team’s offensive snaps, however, so there’s some upside moving forward.

This week, Mayer has a great matchup against a Lions defense that ranks 28th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. He’s too risky to bank on with some questionable quarterback play and with only one good fantasy outing on his resume so far, but Mayer might be worth streaming in deeper leagues if you’re desperate. Mark Andrews had no troubles against this Lions defense last week.

LV TE Michael Mayer - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Chicago Bears

Michael Mayer had a breakout performance against the Patriots last week, catching five of his six targets for 75 yards. Mayer also saw a season-high 81% of the team’s offensive snaps, a number that has been rising steadily all year. He seems to have finally eclipsed Austin Hooper completely on the depth chart.

This week, Mayer has a nice matchup against a Chicago defense that ranks 22nd in aFPA to opposing tight ends. Mayer is a risky option, as last week was really his only good game of his young career. While the upside is nice and the breakout week is encouraging, it’s difficult to recommend starting him just yet. Add him to deep rosters, but try to look elsewhere for this week if possible.
