TEN TE Chigoziem Okonkwo - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Chigoziem Okonkwo cracks our top 25 this week partly due to all the byes this week, but also in part because he has quietly become more involved in the offense lately. He saw six targets last week against the Commanders, though the Titans did have to throw the ball more after Washington got the early jump on them last week. This followed him getting a 70-yard reception two weeks ago. Okonkwo is a very deep TE2 but one that may get you a couple catches if you need them with the byes.

TEN TE Chigoziem Okonkwo - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

A new-look offense and one that could throw the ball more could help Chigoziem Okonkwo finally have his breakout season. We thought that breakout was coming last season but Okonkwo ended up as a low-end TE2. Now, he should have more room to operate in the middle of the field with Calvin Ridley, DeAndre Hopkins, and Tyler Boyd on the outside.

Fantasy Downside

On the flip side, all those new additions will also command plenty of targets themselves and Hopkins isn't going anywhere either. Okonkwo also had the 29th-highest per-game average in games started by Will Levis. He was also limited by playing just 65% of the offensive snaps last season. That number will be another interesting one to watch with the other weapons in Tennessee.

2024 Bottom Line

Okonkwko is nearly going undrafted in fantasy circles, so if you believe a breakout could be coming, you can get him very cheap, if not off the waiver wire. But between the wide receivers and running back Tyjae Spears also in the passing game, Okonkwo will have very limited opportunities to make a major fantasy impact. Consider him a low-end TE2 in drafts and essentially a lottery ticket.

TEN TE Chigoziem Okonkwo - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Seattle Seahawks
Chig Okonkwo caught all three of his targets for 36 scoreless yards in Week 15. Despite Okonkwo's intriguing athleticism, he has not broken 62 yards all season and only has four red zone targets on the year with no touchdowns. That sort of profile does not play in fantasy at the tight end position. The Seahawks are vulnerable over the middle of the field, but Okonkwo simply does not get enough consistent usage or high-value looks to warrant serious consideration as a fantasy starter. Keep him on benches or waivers in Week 16.

TEN TE Chigoziem Okonkwo - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Houston Texans
Chig Okonkwo's six targets in Week 14 matched his season-best, and he set a new season-high with 62 receiving yards to notch a finish as the week's TE9. That being said, Okonkwo still hasn't scored a touchdown this year and his 16% target share places him well behind DeAndre Hopkins in terms of usage regardless of who has been playing QB for the Titans. While Week 14 marked Okonkwo's best fantasy finish of the season, his 5.7 fantasy points per game leaves plenty to be desired especially in a season where we've had so many mid-tier TEs breakout to be viable fantasy options. While Okonkwo appears to be forming some chemistry with Will Levis, it would be best to look elsewhere for a starting TE this week.

TEN TE Chigoziem Okonkwo - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Miami Dolphins
Chigoziem Okonkwo logged a season-high 62 receiving yards in Week 13 and caught three of his six targets on the day. While the 62 yards is good to see, Okonkwo still has yet to finish as a TE1 in any week this season and still hasn't scored a single touchdown in 2023. A tight end who doesn't catch touchdowns is a tough sell in fantasy, and that's even when they don't play in one of the league's most run-heavy offenses. Okonkwo should see a couple additional targets this week just based on projected negative game script, but his production through 12 games is severely lacking and renders him nothing more than a TE2 for fantasy.

TEN TE Chigoziem Okonkwo - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Indianapolis Colts
Chigoziem Okonkwo continues to hover on the fringe of fantasy relevancy. He saw five targets in Week 12 and caught four of them for 45 scoreless yards. That being said, Okonkwo has yet to produce a TE1 performance in any week this season, and he has had varying snap shares throughout the year (although that has been trending down recently, including only 34% in Week 11). Okonkwo has yet to score a touchdown this year, and his inconsistent usage makes him impossible to trust as a fantasy starter.

TEN TE Chigoziem Okonkwo - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Jacksonville Jaguars
Even with Will Levis taking over under center, Chigoziem Okonkwo has seen just 14 targets over the last three games and has yet to exceed 35 receiving yards in any game this season. The Titans remain a run-heavy team and DeAndre Hopkins is the clear-cut top option in the passing game, leaving little production left over for players like Okonkwo. The Jaguars are a middling matchup for opposing tight ends, but Okonkwo just does not see enough targets to justify serious consideration as a TE1. Okonkwo also has yet to score a touchdown on the year, which only solidifies his position as a dynasty stash only.
