ATL TE Kyle Pitts - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

The up-and-down nature of Kyle Pitts' first three seasons in the NFL has a lot of fantasy managers simply passing him over in drafts because they've been "burned". So, it's easy to overlook the fact that he is only 23 years old and has a 1,000-yard campaign under his belt. Only one tight end had 1,000 yards receiving last season (George Kittle), while Travis Kelce was the only one to do it in 2022, so maybe we should cut Pitts a little slack here. He's had miserable quarterback play and an OC who forced touches to Jonnu Smith mixed in over the last two years. Neither of those issues are still relevant in 2024. His ceiling is fantastic Kirk Cousins' No. 2 option. Up until his Achilles tear, TE T.J. Hockenson had a 21.6% target share and a 53-478-3 stat line.

Fantasy Downside
As 2022 and 2023 Pitts drafters are well aware of, the tight end hasn't crested 700 yards since his rookie season and has six combined receiving touchdowns on 249 career targets. Also, veteran Jonnu Smith had a better YPRR (1.55-to-1.43) and far better yards-after-catch numbers (7.3-to-2.5). Surely, we can't blame all of Pitts' shortcomings on Arthur Smith, who ran an offense that targeted the position (173) more than 29 other teams.

2024 Bottom Line
There's not a lot to be negative about in reference to Kyle Pitts in 2024, even if fantasy drafters are none-too-excited about his output these last two seasons. Cousins has a history of targeting the position heavily, the new Falcons OC is all but guaranteed to instill a more robust passing attack than the previous regime, and Pitts profiles as the No. 2 receiving option on an offense that should look much better than in 2022-23.

ATL TE Kyle Pitts - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Chicago Bears

Perhaps Kyle Pitts is starting to get a little hot at the right time. Of course, there's a good chance a lot of championship games won't feature Pitts on either team. But Pitts does have touchdowns in two of his last three games, so there's a bit of a connection between Pitts and Taylor Heinicke. He's an intriguing starting option this week and certainly a streaming option for DFS players. Is he worth a spot in the championship round? Maybe. It's close but he does have a little momentum.

ATL TE Kyle Pitts - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Kyle Pitts has now scored single-digit fantasy points in seven of his last eight games. The change in quarterback isn't going to move the needle much for him. In Heinicke's three appearances, Pitts had less than 40 yards in two of those games. The offense just isn't explosive enough no matter who the quarterback is, so Pitts isn't a reliable option this deep into the fantasy playoffs.

ATL TE Kyle Pitts - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Carolina Panthers

Jonnu Smith isn't limiting Kyle Pitts as much anymore as Pitts has been on a bit of an upswing lately. Two straight games with 50 receiving yards and three out of five. Pitts also scored his first touchdown since Week 6. Carolina presents a tough challenge for Pitts and the Falcons. He caught just two passes against them in Week 1. Pitts remains a borderline TE1 for the fantasy playoffs.

ATL TE Kyle Pitts - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It almost feels too good to be true, but Kyle Pitts actually saw eight targets against the Jets last week, his most since getting 11 against the Texans in Week 5. Still, Pitts hasn't had a touchdown or a double-digit fantasy day since Week 6, so while we always talk about his talent, the offense as a whole limits him to being a TE2 with upside. He had three catches for 47 yards in Week 7 against the Buccaneers, who are a little banged up at linebacker.

ATL TE Kyle Pitts - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at New York Jets

It's as if Desmond Ridder completely forgot about Kyle Pitts last week. Just two targets for the talented tight end, a season-low. He's cracked 50 yards in a game just twice this season and only once since Week 5. The Jets aren't a terrible matchup, but the quarterback play just limits Pitts way too much at this point. His talent makes him TE2-worthy, but there's just almost nothing exciting.

ATL TE Kyle Pitts - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. New Orleans Saints

Kyle Pitts now has four straight games without double-digit fantasy points, though he did come close in Week 9. He has five targets in each of those four games and hasn't scored since Week 6. Since Atlanta has mixed Jonnu Smith into the picture, Pitts hasn't been able to fully utilize all his talent, thus capping his fantasy potential. Keep Pitts as a TE2, though it is a favorable matchup against the Saints (27th-ranked defense vs. tight ends on our board).
