NYG RB Bobby Rainey - Week 9, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Philadelphia

Bobby Rainey was thought to be the most likely player to take over for Shane Vereen in the passing game after catching 13 passes in two weeks, but only has three catches in the two games since then and comes off the bye with an undefined role in the offense. He’s being pushed by rookie Paul Perkins, who actually out-snapped him in Week 7 before the bye. Rainey has some low-end PPR value in deep leagues on the bench, but he’s looking more and more like a guy who should stay on waivers at this point and there isn’t enough to like to warrant having him in your lineup.

Week 7 vs. Los Angeles
Bobby Rainey only had 29 yards last week, but he got six carries and was targeted three times in the passing game, catching two passes. Not great numbers, but Rainey was on the field for 40 percent of the team’s snaps and caught a total of 13 passes the previous two games, giving him some low-end RB3/Flex value in larger PPR leagues.

NYG RB Bobby Rainey - Week 6, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Baltimore
Bobby Rainey really seems to have taken over the Shane Vereen third-down role in New York. He had five carries for 22 yards last week against the Packers, but he also caught six passes for 52 yards in the passing game. Rainey should continue in that role with Vereen on IR, even if starter Rashad Jennings returns this week.

Rainey won’t be a top back in any week, but he does have low-end RB2/RB3 value in PPR leagues. He’ll face a tough Baltimore defense that ranks fifth in rushing yards allowed this season, but he should still be targeted often enough in the passing game to be relevant in large PPR formats.

NYG RB Bobby Rainey - Week 5, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Green Bay
Bobby Rainey had only four carries for 22 yards against the Vikings on Monday night, but he was very active in the passing game. He finished the game with seven receptions for 43 receiving yards and looks to be a natural fit filling in for the injured Shane Vereen in the change-of-pace, third-down role on the team.

He’s a risky start, but against a Green Bay defense that has given up the fourth most passing yards per game this year, he has some low-end PPR upside if you’re desperate. He should be added in most PPR leagues for sure since Vereen is out for possibly the whole season.

Week 4 at Minnesota
Bobby Rainey had one catch for 24 yards last week, but may increase his role in the passing game with Shane Vereen going to IR this week. Rainey had some success in a supplementary and spot-starter role in Tampa Bay over the past few seasons, but he’s never really proven himself to be a consistent starter. Even with Rashad Jennings banged up right now, expect Orleans Darkwa to be the main guy in the running game with Rainey possibly gaining some PPR value. He’s too risky to bank on right now, but if he gets more than five targets in the passing game this week, he may be worth adding in PPR leagues.

Bobby Rainey - Week 14 vs. Detroit
Bobby Rainey leads the Bucs in rushing and is third on the team in receptions, but he now appears to be third in the Bucs' three-headed attack. He finished with just one carry and two receptions last week. He's not a reliable option moving forward.

Bobby Rainey - Week 13 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bucs' backfield practically saw an even split between its three backs. Here's the snap count breakdown: Doug Martin - 26, Charles Sims - 25, Bobby Rainey - 25. Even their combined efforts don't make a for a great back. The three combined for 52 rushing yards and 33 receiving yards for a total of 85 yards. When you split the three you just get a bunch of ineffective fantasy players.

All three players are low RB3 options. There's an off-chance one of them scores a rushing touchdown, although I wouldn't bet on it. Josh McCown still leads the team in rushing touchdowns with two.
