Scouting report

ATL QB Desmond Ridder - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Carolina Panthers

Desmond Ridder actually had himself a strong fantasy day last week against the Buccaneers, throwing for 347 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 15 yards and a touchdown. That was more passing yards than he had in the previous two weeks combined. He'll look to improve on what was a very quiet day in Week 1 against the Panthers (15/18, 115 yards, 1 touchdown). Ridder is a fringe QB2 this week against a tough Panthers defense.

ATL QB Desmond Ridder - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Falcons just haven't been explosive on offense. Last week was the latest example as Ridder posted his second-straight full start with under 200 yards passing. The Jets' defense is among the best in the league. Still, it's hard to get excited about the prospects of Ridder in fantasy circles. He hasn't had a double-digit day since Week 6. It's too risky, especially if you're fighting for a playoff spot.

ATL QB Desmond Ridder - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at New York Jets

Desmond Ridder returned to the starting lineup in Week 12 following Atlanta's bye in Week 11. It was more of the same from Ridder, just 13/21 for 168 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He gets the Jets this week. While the Jets have been reeling a bit on defense, Ridder isn't going to scare them and New York could be getting a key piece back in slot cornerback Michael Carter II. Ridder is a borderline QB2 this week, partly due to six teams being off this week.

ATL QB Desmond Ridder - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. New Orleans Saints

Desmond Ridder is back. Taylor Heinicke suffered a hamstring injury in Week 10, putting Ridder back in the mix and the Falcons have decided to stick with Ridder. They might as well because they should get as much game film as they can to see if Ridder can show improvement at the end of the season or if it's time to turn the page next offseason. Until he does show improvement, Ridder is a low-end QB2. If Atlanta reaches the red zone, Ridder is at least a threat to score.

ATL QB Desmond Ridder - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Tennessee Titans

The Falcons overcame another rocky start from Desmond Ridder, who threw zero touchdowns and fumbled three times. Atlanta still got a big divisional win over Tampa Bay to take over first place in the NFC South. Now they get the Titans, who just traded away safety Kevin Byard. Still, Ridder is typically going to be average at best. And with every team playing, you aren’t forced to play Ridder if you don’t have to.

ATL QB Desmond Ridder - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Desmond Ridder finally had his first game of the season with multiple passing touchdowns. It was also his second in a row with 300 yards. Is Ridder starting to make a turn for the better? Well, maybe not so fast. He also had three killer interceptions against the Commanders, giving him five in the last three games. All that being said, the quarterback pool is a bit shallow this week, so Ridder still checks in as a low-end QB2 by default.

ATL QB Desmond Ridder - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at New Orleans Saints

Welcome to the NFL, Desmond Ridder. He'll be the sixth rookie quarterback to start a game this season as he takes over for Marcus Mariota, who led the Falcons to a 5-8 record at the bye week. Ridder's first game comes against the Saints, who allowed 215 passing yards to Mariota in Week 1. It's early to say how different the offense will look under Ridder, but at least they're giving the rookie a shot. For now, consider Ridder a borderline QB2 and someone you wouldn't want to get cute with in the playoffs yet.
