PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Kansas City
After a strong debut, DeVonta Smith has not been as impactful in the last two games. The rookie had three receptions for 28 yards last week and just wasn't getting into space where he is very dangerous.

The matchup is great this week against Kansas City who is ranked 31st in aFPA to wide receivers. Smith and the Eagles have to figure this out and until they do, we favor keeping Smith on the bench for Week 4. He is still fantasy-relevant, but not quite consistent enough through the early season.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Dallas
DeVonta Smith's targets have been consistent through the first two weeks with seven and eight. However, his fantasy production took a step back last week with only two receptions for 16 yards. The Eagles rookie is already seeing special attention from opposing defenses so it will be up to the Philly coaches to find ways to get him the ball in better situations.

Smith faces the Cowboys who were ranked dead last in aFPA to wide receivers in 2020. He should have more success this week as long as he gets those 7-8 targets. Start Smith as a low-end WR3 or Flex. We will eventually see big games from him and this could be the start of it.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. San Francisco
We had a feeling DeVonta Smith would immediately become the Eagles' No. 1 receiver and Week 1 proved that. He was targeted a team-high 8 times and caught six passes for 71 yards and his first NFL touchdown. What's noticeable is the targets were more than either tight end which the Eagles have been reliant on over the past several seasons.

Smith will have a tougher matchup against a very good San Francisco defense. We expect the numbers he put up last week to be the norm for him. What we don't expect this week is a breakout performance fantasy-wise.

Start Smith as a WR3 or Flex for Week 2. His numbers should be good enough to aid your fantasy team in that role.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Atlanta
After last year's first-round pick Jalen Reagor didn't make enough plays in the Eagles' offense, the Birds went out and got DeVonta Smith. Smith goes right to the top of the Philly receiver fantasy rankings as most expect his dynamic skills will carry over to the NFL.

Smith will have a very favorable matchup in Week 1 against the Falcons who had problems stopping the pass in 2020. Although the Eagles will still lean heavily on the tight ends in the passing game, we expect Smith to make 4-5 catches for 60+ yards. Expect him to be more efficient in PPR leagues with underneath routes.

Start Smith as a WR3 or Flex against Atlanta. He will have a key role all season and could be elevated higher as the season moves on.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
The Eagles receiving corp had a rough 2020 season so they addressed the need for a playmaker with the 10th pick in the draft selecting DeVonta Smith from Alabama. Smith had ridiculous production against SEC defenses with 117 receptions for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns, Philly expects Smith to be very effective with short throws and over the middle of the field. He should be heavily targeted which should produce great fantasy numbers for an NFL rookie.

Fantasy Downside
The biggest knock on Smith is his small stature. Even though he was able to be successful in college, the NFL is a different story. The Eagles' passing game will also be watched as QB Jalen Hurts needs to increase his passing efficiency. Philadelphia's passing game has been tight end and running back heavy, but with new head coach Nick Sirianni, there will be a new philosophy and scheme on offense. We will have to wait and see how the receivers are used.

Bottom Line
The Eagles have no clear No. 1 receiver so Smith will have plenty of opportunities this season to be in that role. Smith's ADP has him being drafted around the seventh and eighth round which is pretty much spot on. He will be used as a WR3 or flex this season with 57 catches for 970 yards and 6 touchdowns expected. The rookie will be one of the top weapons on the Philly offense.
