Scouting report

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Dallas Cowboys

DeVonta Smith caught six balls for 51 yards and failed to find the endzone for the first time in three games in Week 16. Smith has averaged just 11.5 Half-PPR points per game this season, and he has only had one game with more than six catches in his last nine. He has a beatable opponent in Week 17, with the Cowboys ranking 30th in aFPA to wide receivers. But the absence of Jalen Hurts should see a decrease in quantity AND quality of dropbacks for the Eagles, making Smith a volatile WR3 option in Week 17.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Washington Commanders

DeVonta Smith returned to the lineup, and the end zone, against the Steelers and like A.J. Brown benefitted somewhat from a pass-heavy approach by the Eagles. It's hard to project him as anything more than a WR2 this week, however, given Brown's continued presence and the likelihood of this one being a Saquon Barkley game. The Commanders are more generous to running backs than wide receivers, against whom they rank sixth in aFPA. Smith is not to be benched, but expectations should be tempered.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs Pittsburgh Steelers

DeVonta Smith has only eight receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown in his last two games as the Eagles established the run harder than any other Eagles team in living memory. He’s hard to trust as anything more than a low-end WR3 in a clash with a Steelers side that ranks seventh in aFPA to wide receivers and with a noticeably grumpy A.J. Brown across the field.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs Carolina Panthers

DeVonta Smith looks set to return to the lineup for the Eagles in Week 14, just in time for the Eagles to lose Dallas Goedert as they continue to be unable to field their first-string offense. Smith has not really enjoyed much fantasy success this season and ranks 37th in Half-PPR points per game. Week 14 looks like another run-heavy game for the Eagles with the Panthers ranking 32nd in aFPA to running backs compared to fifth to wide receivers. Smith projects to be a low-end WR3 this week.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Los Angeles Rams

It will surprise many people to learn that over the last four weeks, DeVonta Smith has outscored A.J. Brown in Half-PPR points per game. Smith is averaging a mere 10.4 against Brown’s 9.5, although Smith is still only the WR30 this season. Smith has been dealing with a hamstring injury over the last few weeks too, but if he can grit it out against the Rams this week he could be in store for a decent fantasy outing. The Rams rank 27th in aFPA to wide receivers, and if the Eagles do take to the air more often than they have been doing of late then Smith, Brown and Dallas Goedert should all see a welcome boost to their stats. Look for Smith to put up low-end WR2 numbers in Week 12.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs Washington Commanders

Week 10 was another quiet game for DeVonta Smith in a season seemingly filled with them. Smith finished a depressing WR73 against the Cowboys, which was a far far cry from his seasonal average of WR24 in Half-PPR points per game. The matchup against the Commanders is not a bad one on paper, with the Commanders ranking 20th in aFPA to wide receivers. But Smith has proven to be a volatile performer in 2024, and trusting him above low-end WR2 numbers seems to be a risky strategy in Week 11.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Dallas Cowboys

DeVonta Smith has been an excellent fantasy asset this season, quietly averaging 12.7 Half-PPR points per game on his way to WR16 numbers. He has a potentially awesome matchup against the Cowboys who rank 23rd in aFPA to wide receivers. Still, A.J. Brown's presence, Dallas Goedert's return, and a bottom-kicking Eagles ground game may limit his opportunities in Week 10. Smith should be viewed as a WR2 option this week.
