Scouting report

NE RB Rhamondre Stevenson - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Detroit Lions

Rhamondre Stevenson may not get as many carries on the ground as Damien Harris, but he easily sees more work in the passing game. Stevenson has two straight games with four catches, boosting his PPR value. He's a fine ground-game runner as well and this week, faces one of the worst run defenses in the league in the Detroit Lions, the second-best matchup this week for running backs. Stevenson is definitely flex-worthy, maybe even RB2-worthy, this week.

NE RB Rhemondre Stevenson - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Green Bay Packers

Rhamondre Stevenson is starting to take over the old James White role in the passing game while splitting work on the ground with Damien Harris. It's still a true running-back-by-committee in New England, but Stevenson still gets enough work overall to warrant a flex look. Green Bay also boasts the worst rushing DVOA rating on defense through three weeks.

NE RB Rhamondre Stevenson - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Baltimore Ravens

Rhamondre Stevenson continues to take a backseat to Damien Harris in the Patriots backfield. Though two games, Stevenson has yet to see ten carries in a game and has just three catches. The interesting part is Stevenson played 15 more snaps than Harris, but Harris is getting the touches, making him the slightly better fantasy option. Stevenson is a low flex option against a solid rush defense in Baltimore.

NE RB Rhamondre Stevenson - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Pittsburgh Steelers

There was talk during training camp that Rhamondre Stevenson would possibly take over the role vacated by the retired James White. That has since gone to Ty Montgomery, putting Stevenson once again in a committee with Damien Harris. He saw eight carries but only played 14 snaps against the Dolphins in Week 1. With Montgomery now on IR, perhaps Stevenson will take a bigger role in Week 2? This week, he gets the Steelers in what will be a very tough matchup for all the Patriots running backs. Harris so far is getting more playing time and more likely to get goal-line work. Stevenson is still a low-end flex option, but he'll have tough sledding against the Steelers, who will be rallying without T.J. Watt.

NE RB Rhemondre Stevenson - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Miami Dolphins

The Patriots may start to open up their passing attack this season in Mac Jones' second year. But they still have a very good pair of running backs to deploy and they will do just that. In fact, there looks to be plenty of work to allow both Rhamondre Stevenson and Damien Harris to both be strong RB2s. The early thought was Stevenson may have been taking over the James White role, but Ty Johnson has lately worked into that. Still, the Patriots seem high on Stevenson, so roll with him as an RB2 this week against the Dolphins.

NE RB Rhamondre Stevenson - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
Once Rhamondre Stevenson started getting involved in the offense during the second half of the season, he showed plenty of talent and upside and the Patriots started showing more trust in the rookie. His second half was highlighted by his 100-yard, two-touchdown performance against the Browns in Week 10. There’s also less of a crowd in New England’s backfield, as James White is recovering from a hip injury (likely replaced by Pierre Strong Jr.) and Brandon Bolden is now in Las Vegas. Arrow is pointing up for Stevenson.

2022 Fantasy Downside
The Patriots don’t involve their running backs not named James White too much into the passing game. Stevenson saw just 18 targets last season and caught 14 of those targets. And Damien Harris is still hanging around to take some of the early-down work.

2022 Bottom Line
This is a true committee in New England, but perhaps we could slowly start seeing a changing of the guard to Stevenson. When you’re tough to bring down as a running back like Stevenson is (4th in yards after contact per attempt and 2nd in broken tackles per attempt, per John Paulsen), you’re going to get opportunities and you’re going to get yards, which will equal fantasy points. Stevenson is a flex with RB2, maybe even low-RB1 upside, especially if Harris misses time.

NE RB Rhemondre Stevenson - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Jaguars

Rhamondre Stevenson missed Week 16 while on the reserve/COVID list and watched Damien Harris beat up the Bills again for over 100 yards and three touchdowns. Stevenson should be back this week. but no way is New England getting away from Damien Harris' hot hand. Stevenson is a bit too risky for the finals.
